Mad Max looks like it really is coming to SteamOS & Linux after all, another massive game for us

GREAT!!! Because I really need to win the game, and I hate booting into Windows... at this point if I boot into Windows I end up playing Elite: Dangerous.

Quoting: GuestCome oooooooon GDC March 14-18! Just 1.5 more months and we may have Vulkan games to play. At the very least we should have names of games that will be coming with Vulkan.

That is, IF vulkan is released at GDC. I don't want to be pessimistic or anything, but there has been no release date yet (appart from "before the end of 2015", of course).

From the descriptions of some of the events (see previous article about it), it sounds like Vulkan will be released as well as some games using it, but we shall see.

Both companies are on the shitlist for things like that as far as I'm concerned. Like there were some Hardware Tessellation bits you could enable in games like Tomb Raider, and nvidia cards would slow to a crawl.

Torment: Tides of Numenera launches in Early Access without Linux support, coming much later

I haven't played Planescape: Torment yet, and actually ended up getting a free copy of this game due to backing Bard's Tale 4. Though I have no clue if that entailed early access or not.

Not that it matters, I have almost no time to play games lately :(, though I did spend almost an entire day playing Elite: Dangerous (I know, I have rotted my brain by booting into Windows.... )

Atari Vault, a 100 classic game collection heading to SteamOS & Linux
26 January 2016 at 5:19 am UTC

Ha, I've been getting back to my old Atari's lately (namely the ST line of computers, as I was finally able to get a Falcon030) and this kind of mixes in with my thoughts about why Atari went wrong... mainly that their glory days really were the 2600, and after that I think they didn't understand how to get developers to create software for their other platforms, that's certainly what killed off the 8-bits, the STs and the Jaguar.

It'd be a shame for a package of 100 Atari games on Steam to only have 2600 games though.

On another note, they made a Combat 2 and Adventure 2?

Shakedown Hawaii, the follow up to Retro City Rampage should be on Linux

Yeah, I haven't really been able to fully enjoy a GTA game since the first two. I mean they were/are fun, but I've not been able to stick through the whole game to completion. GTA1 will always have a special place in my heart. :D

The Mean Greens - Plastic Warfare now in closed testing for Linux
15 January 2016 at 11:44 pm UTC

Seems it isn't terribly fond of multiple monitors, but from what I understand that is an Unreal Engine issue? For example, the menus wouldn't work right. I haven't had much time yet to really give it a go, but it looks fantastic.

SteamOS beta updated to support Xbox One Elite gamepad
11 January 2016 at 3:30 pm UTC

Personally, I'm loving my Steam Controller. I use it on everything I can now. Though I did find a nice bug in Mad Max (yeah I know, evil me playing on Windows) where it will randomly tell you to push mouse buttons or keyboard equivalents (like pressing E on the keyboard instead of A on the controller). I'm not sure if that's because of the gamepad/mouse combination the steam controller's profile is using, or what the deal is.

Anyone else seen something similar in another game?

Carmageddon: Reincarnation still aiming for a Linux version
7 January 2016 at 6:25 pm UTC

Quoting: ShaoluI guess the lesson here is that if a developer lists Linux support as a stretch goal, expect the deadline to be stretched as well.

This has been stretched out like Rosie O'Donnell's underwear.

Or like William Shatner's dialog.

Or like the Death Star was for Force Awakens.

Looks like Republique is no longer getting a Linux port

Really sucks how often this happens. Pretty sure that was why Unreal Tournament 3 was never released for Linux. At least Bioware at the time had just skipped supporting the cut scenes between chapters and released Neverwinter Nights anyhow.

Happy Holidays from GamingOnLinux

Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas, Awesome New Year, etc.

I just have to say, this past year has been epic for Linux gaming, and it makes me look a bit back in time to when people with computers were all considered nerds, and especially ones who played video games. Then video games became more acceptable everywhere, and then slowly computers did, but we the nerdiest of them all grabbed onto Linux and went with it. I myself went from an Atari 800XL, to Atari Mega STe, crappy Packard Bell with Windows 95, Atari TT030, then a custom PC since. But then around '97 or so I started dabbling in Linux, and back then you pretty much had to compile XFree86, and know every bit of hardware you had to configure it correctly. Now it's advanced so much that it's used everywhere, including cell phones, and finally is preparing to jump into the next year with dedicated gaming machines running SteamOS. Long hard battle, but I think we deserve it!

Cheers everyone!
