Insurgency: Sandstorm no longer getting Linux/Mac support or a campaign mode

Quoting: GuestYep, Valve and Microsoft have worked nicely together at hurting Linux and killing support for our platform. Valve made a real push towards Linux at first until they were bribed by a bunch of Microsoft suits that visited their headquarters a while back as reported by Michael of Phoronix. They slowed their Linux push and transformed into just helping Windows gaming, and the native releases slowed and slowed.

We're talking about the same Valve that made it possible to run most of its catalogue on Linux by just pressing a button, yes?

QuoteThe proper response is No Tux No Bux. We don't get Linux support, you don't get money, the only thing they give a fuck about.

If you had 1% less money in your wallet, would you notice?

Chooseco are getting indie games using 'choose your own adventure' taken down on itch.io

I am no IP lawyer, but this seems so blatantly unlawful that it's not even funny. Trademarks on common words usually apply only to very, very specific uses. Such as Apple can claim the right to that trademark for electronic devices, but they can't prevent a grocer from calling that edible round thing an "apple".

I really think they are just betting on the fact that small devs have no funds to defend themselves against these trolls.

I agree with the first comment that IP law needs an overhaul and urgently so.

NVIDIA presenting a talk at GTC 2020 about Linux drivers and possibly some open source news

I am sooo happy that AMD is a true choice again, so I don't need to worry about these guys open-sourcing their driver, or not. There is absolutely no way that my next PC will feature an NVidia-made GPU. NVidia is a textbook example why (near-)monopolies are bad, and also a textbook example for a thoroughly evil company.

Roadwarden, an upcoming illustrated text-based exploration fantasy RPG with a Linux demo

In in a time and age where people generally seem to prefer watching a 40 min YouTube guide over spending 3 min on reading text containing the same information, this game feels a bit out of place, haha!

I am looking forward to it. I loved text adventures back in the days!

The big Rocket League update that kicked out loot boxes is now live

I guess it's as always - a price isn't too high if people still buy the stuff. If people are willing to spend more money on visual gimmicks than on the actual game, be my guest. Unlike loot-boxes, at least it's transparent and you know what you're getting for your money.

I still have a very low opinion about developers trying to milk their customers in that way.

Feral Interactive are teasing movement on Life is Strange 2 for Linux
4 December 2019 at 4:27 pm UTC Likes: 6

So essentially people are dissing on Feral for getting permission from a company to port a game to Linux, because the same company also happened to allow them to port their previous games?

That makes sense! *nods*

/sarcasm

Seriously, I think people still mistakenly assume that Feral picks the games they port. From how I understand it, it's more that they have to beg them to let them do it, because nobody in big gaming business gives a flying fish about Linux.
I dislike the lack of AAA games on Linux as much as anyone, but the truth is that other than Square Enix and the Total War devs, nobody seems to be interested in Linux ports, so that's what Feral is porting.

Paradox give a little insight into murder and seduction in Crusader Kings 3's new Scheme system

Quoting: The_AquabatTalking about upcoming games.... Liam do you have any clue if Empire of Sin a Paradox game will release for Linux ??

EDIT: nevermind seems not

Yeah, Paradox seems to have little to do with this title other than being publisher. I would also be surprised if that one turned out to be any good anyway. John Romero has yet to make anything good after he quit ID, and not sure if his wife alone will be able to save it.

Epic Games have awarded the FOSS game manager Lutris with an Epic MegaGrant

Quoting: yokem55That might be enough to fund a small team for a few weeks to get a proof of concept build of the store out. But once you start getting a QA process rolling and either adding a proton like infrastructure or supporting native ports in the store, then the costs go way up in the context of a big company of people with decent salaries.

And in those kinds of companies (especially ones with public shareholders or outside investors) the costs have to have a compelling ROI model. Valve can do what they do precisely because they are incredibly profitable and privately owned.

While that's true, EPIC is drowning in money. You can't sell me the idea that they're afraid of their shareholders throwing a hissy-fit over spending 0.000-something percent of their last-year's Fortnite bonanza on a dev working on a Linux port of their store. Shareholders care about things that matter, not something that leaves less impact on the bottom-line than their annual office Christmas party.

So impressive to see that the dev still works hard on this game, without even charging for the updates, despite he could. Love it. :)

Quoting: ColomboIMHO Paradox as a company made a deep dive and we have lost one of the more interesting company for strategic fans.

I am not sure I agree with this. While this game did get a lukewarm reception, I cannot name you another recent Paradox title that wasn't at least good, if not great. Stellaris, Cities Skylines and Hearts of Iron IV are arguably the best games of their respective genres, and Surviving Mars is still a good game.
