I guess that would really be a great thing, as it would (at least partially) offset true or perceived financial risks of supporting Linux for developers. And in contrast to what Epic does, it wouldn't be unethical. I suppose the thought occurred to Valve, but my guess would be that while they want to push Linux, they're not ready to sink double-figure millions of bucks into it, either.

Quoting: subI'd like to see Valve giving devs a discount as an incentive, IF they (properly) support all 3 targets Windows, Mac, Linux.

Goonies-inspired adventure Knights And Bikes releasing with Linux support on August 27th

While I am hugely skeptical these days, too: Given how close the release date is...in this case I guess they are pretty sure that they can deliver. I wouldn't worry about it.

My bad but am still sceptical whenever i see confirmed as coming to linux until you know its out because we are still waiting for Witcher 3, Street Fighter 5, Carmageddon, Phoenix point ( i know they cancelled it outright but it was promised for over a year) Batman Arkham Knight and a laundry list of games promised yet never delivered.

You mistakenly assume that the average game dev knows how to install Linux. Or use any development tool not called Visual Studio. Most of these folks have a surprisingly narrow skill-set, sadly. They know the tools they need for making Windows games, and that's it.
I guess disasters like this happen when people that never used anything but Windows all life long assume that Linux is just Windows with a penguin logo and conclude their Windows-only game developed on Windows, using Windows middle-ware, and never tested on anything but Windows will somehow magically compile on Linux because their game-engine has an "Export to Linux" button.
That's unfortunately not the case, as this and many other studios found out the hard way.

Quoting: GuestThey could just start developing on Linux like Bacioiu Ciprian is doing and port thier game to Windows and Mac.

Loot boxes is a business model that needs to be banned, period. It's every bit as bad as gambling in a casino, except the casino is required to play fair by telling you your win chances and minors can't enter.
Looks like we might see the end of developers constantly changing their Steam release date

It needs to be a good balance. I normally really like Steam's hands-off approach to the store, but humans always will find ways to abuse their freedoms, so in this case, Valve stepping in was a good thing. I can do without Steam adopting Apple-style "WE dictate what you can buy, sell and see on our store." methods, though.

The better curated and administrated the marketplace is, the better it will be for us customers.

To be honest, I find asking Linux users if they want to have games available for Linux...a bit silly? What's the point of this question? They know (or at least should know) their target audience. Our market share is well-known and tiny, but they can safely assume that roughly the same percentage of Linux users will like their game as Windows users. If they'd be happy to sell to us under these conditions, just port the thing! If not, don't. It's really that simple.
For the record, this looks like a game I would almost certainly buy, but I am also not going to beg anyone to do business with me. While we -are- a niche platform, there are enough games to play to last a lifetime or two. The times when we had to beg are over!

FOSS game engine "Godot Engine" making fantastic Vulkan API progress

Exciting, indeed! Can't wait to get my hands on it! Godot is already a masterpiece, given the limited resources that went into making it (compared to the heavyweight engines, at least), and it will become so much better with Vulkan support.
