Quoting: anewsonAnd that's not even mentioning that Paradox DLC seems to always be poorly-received; I can only think of a few that score above 'Mixed' on steam.

It's safe to assume that's partly because people vote against the business model, not so much a particular DLC.

I also had no clue about the game's release. That's not all that surprising in my case. I am notoriously hard to reach with marketing (I ad-block everything, barely watch any TV, don't listen to radio, and don't do social media except Discord and a few reddits that interest me). The only game-related news site I am following is gamingonlinux. Anything else, if it does not make it to the Steam frontpage, I have a good chance never to notice.

Still, the game seems to be kinda decent, so I am really wondering what made it fail so hard. I can see where it won't appeal to Paradox's core audience, but this can't be the only reason, no?

What a shame. Their Shadowrun games were fantastic.

Look at the bright side: Usually, when big studios acquire others, the quality of games made by the studio that got taken over plummets. Looking at the stuff Activision/Blizzard churned out...this can't happen here! :D

I wonder why Steam can't just support hardware tokens, like everyone else. I hate using phones as security tokens because they become a single point of failure (and also because I don't trust big business not to lose/abuse my phone number). :S

Quoting: BumadarAs for Unity, the 2022 gaming report states unity has 230.000 active developers doing 750.000 games.
Let's say 5% of those have been (publicly) angry about this whole debacle, that would be 11.500 (way to high a number but let's be positive), let's say 1% of those are really going to quit with unity, that would be 1150 (again way to high but hey), that still leaves 228.850.

Your logic is flawed. Typically, for every person publicly angry there are 3-4 more angry people who don't speak up at all and just walk away quietly. Plus, if people are so angry that they are -publicly- speaking out, it's safe to assume that more than 1% actually walk away.

But yes, Unity won't die anytime soon, for the same reason MS Office doesn't. Lots of people are skilled using it, and studios dread the investment needed to train their staff on an engine based on very different ideas.

So if you don't keep track of user installations, don't use any of their intrusive "services", and aren't publicly traded...they take an educated guess?

Also, what the heck is "initial engagement"? A term you come up with when you attended too many board meetings? Or had to much coffee?

I find it funny that they have a problem with MicroVision having a stranglehold on a unimportant niche-market (cloud gaming), but take no issue at all with erasing meaningful competition in the gaming industry in general.

I guess they're just playing regulation theater to pretend they take competition seriously when they really don't.
