Civilization VI for Linux is no longer certain, only a possibility

I am sorry, but if they plan to release a game on platforms other than Windows (and they obviously did, as Linux/Mac were confirmed when the game was announced), and then use Windows-only middleware to make it, they are stupid. You can't just write a Windows game using Windows development tools and then hope the thing will magically compile on Mac or Linux. If you want to deploy multi-platform, you need to develop multi-platform.

Quoting: barottoMiddlewares can be a huge problem for ports and their use is decided by the game developers.

Oh well, I wasn't sure if I wanted the game anyway, despite I am a huge Civ fan. I own every single game in the franchise so far, but this one I am skeptical about. The infantile cartoon art aside (it's a borderline dealbreaker all by itself, right there), but I am also not sure about cities going to sprawl out on your map. The scale between city and world size will just not match up anymore. Also, the idea to make world wonders occupy entire squares and even require certain terrain to build on seems to be quite artificial to me.
In the end, their loss, not mine. I can continue to play Civ V for a while longer. I also own Stellaris, Hearts of Iron IV, and Europa Universalis IV, so my strategy game needs are satisfied for the time being. No tux, no bux!

It's a really cool game. I must admit that the retro pixel art stuff is normally putting me off more than anything - but in this game it just feels natural and right. The update sounds nice - I hope us GOG users will be able to get it soon, too! There are so many great things that still could be done with the game. I hope we will see more content updates in the future (yes, yes, I am willing to pay for them!).

I suppose you will have plenty of time for doing that - they haven't even started the fundraiser yet. This game is likely years off. :D

Quoting: DrMcCoyThat reminds me: I still need to play Wasteland 2. I started it, got about half-way, then suspended it for a bit (RL, other games) and suddenly, there was a Director's Cut. So I need to restart from scratch there. :)

I play lots of turn based games and still think it's the best format for strategy games (as it puts focus on your thinking and not on how fast you can click a mouse, unlike with RTS), but I agree insofar with you that I have never seen it working well in a -multiplayer- game. E.g. I love Civ, but I tried it only once as a multiplayer game and never looked back. It's just a snoozefest, waiting for everybody to finish their turns. *brrrr*

Quoting: wolfyrionwell in short this game is like a mini tabletop clone of warcraft.
it has the style of warcraft, I mean like familiar graphic patterns etc.
is a turn based strategy game so on each fight you have to wait your turn, so boring that you may fall asleep.
(you already know how much I hate turn based games)

Looks cute. Anyone familiar with the game's progress knows if their business model is sane? I have to admit I am quite wary of F2P games. I don't mind these games selling convenience items, additional content and faster leveling, but many of them making actually make -playing- the game impossible unless you keep pouring in money (like most of these stupid "free" mobile games, ugh). And the latter I detest with quite a passion.

I should have said MMORPG, because that's what I meant. MOBAs, MMOFPS and MMORTS I have not too much interest in. :D
Agreed on SWTOR, though.

Quoting: seguleh@Kimyrielle: War Thunder. It's MMO game and it's very good. However I would like to see SW:TOR on Linux... ;)

Seriously. I have more good games for Linux than I can possibly play and 25 more waiting on the wishlist. Generally, I (mostly) stopped buying Windows games around two years ago. The only exceptions I grant myself are MMOs (as there is still not a single decent one available for Linux) and Bethesda's games. Otherwise I haven't looked back. I guess in my case it helps that I consider anything made by EA and Ubisoft garbage by definition, and while I wouldn't label Blizzard games that, I still don't buy their stuff (I can't stand their choice of art style, it makes my eyes bleed).
If I wouldn't be such a die-hard MMO fan, I'd probably have wiped Windows off my hard drive already. It will still happen, sooner or later.

Quoting: skinnyrafHow naive I was. There are so many great games for Linux, my wishlist has 57 games for SteamOS and the backlog is growing again.

A week or two of delay doesn't matter much, but when the Linux version is months behind the Windows release, some might just bite the bullet and get the game for Windows, driving down Linux sales in the process. Which is hardly a good thing, as our sales figures aren't terribly impressive to begin with.

Quoting: EhvisMaybe we should be happy with the lack of day 1 releases. The experience should be better after a few updates.
