Well I always like new content, but do wish they would release the Linux version of the base game already. This is one of my most anticipated games of the year so Im getting itchy feet.
I sympathise with the feelings of others who are skeptical, we have seen it before and while I still have faith, I feel developers with non day 1 Linux ports need to have a much more transparent approach to the Linux community regarding timescales and roadmaps for release. I dont expect detailed step by step blows, but a fortnightly update on major movement or blocks, or simply a blog post with screenshots from the Linux build would be enough.
Otherwise we get this vicious self fulfilling cycle where Linux Gamers get angry and bitchy to developers because no progress seems to being made, which translates to people swearing off buying game, developers then get the idea that we moan alot and dont buy games thus they drop suport in future titles.
Yes its fustrating to be what feels like a 2nd class citizen at times, and yes I beleieve it's a 2-way street Linux Gamers need to be more patient at times and give developers (who dont have a habit/track record of dropping support) the benefit of the doubt until proven otherwise, and likewise developers have to understand that delaying linux release ultimately hurts them, games drop from the forefront of peoples minds after time passes and if the game does support cross play sometimes that window closes as the game peters out before we get it.

This stream output hack, does it do anything for the Witcher 3?

Quoting: YoRHa-2B...Similarly, the stream output hack won't be required anymore when DXVK supports it properly. ...

While not quite as extreme as yourself, I do tend to only get Windows games to play on WINE once they are heavily discounted and a good fw years past there release; I also try and not get any via steam as it keeps my library looking more totally linux.

Quoting: Alm888Quoting: Guest…many Linux gamers like myself already play it and we get counted as "Windows" players. And rightfully so! Because, for all intents and purposes you are a Windows-gamer. :P
Quoting: MicromegasI consider buying a new game which is only available for Windows but currently runs via Wine as too risky. Any new game update might break it on Wine.If a game has Platinum rating, is more than 12 years old and has a great discount (the price is less than $2), I find it pretty safe to get it. Oh, and freeware games also (provided they are good of course). As long as I do not have to install/tinker/replace/hack-in/compile something to make it work (no winetricks, native libs, dxvk etc. Just plain and simple system-provided WINE).

Football Manager 2019 announced and sadly it's not coming to Linux

Didnt the Paradox thing turn out to be a mistake by their PR person, as in the internally developed game announced was going to be Linux, as for the other one they would explore but its a 3rd party dev, they are only publishing.

Quoting: LeopardThings is , we need another push in some way. Otherwise i'm afraid we will see many more series like that fading away. According to last response of Paradox ( covered here as an article ) they're the possible next publisher can do that.

Shame, but I havent played a FM game since the 2009 version so wont affect me personally. But still not a good thing for a company to admit that Linux isnt a good business desicion for them while understandable. Hopefully this only affects this game specifically as FM is published by Sega who also publish the Total War games (I know those are brought to us by Feral though)
The sci-fi mystery game 'The Station' sold around 15% on Linux with low overall Steam sales

I believe that you can load Stellaris without Steam even for the Steam store bought version.

Quoting: devlandQuoting: STiATIt's a store and launcher, where the games are bound to your account. So of course there is DRM in some way.
So is Steam, yet not all games have DRM on Steam. DRM on Steam is optional. Game developers/producers decide if they want to use it or not.
Tropico 5, for example, is DRM free on Steam for Linux. You can install it via Steam, then run it after uninstalling Steam. Can you do the same with this launcher?

DXVK for Direct3D 11 over Vulkan in Wine has a new 0.60 release

No I dont think this will be integrated directly into WINE as the WINE Devs have a strict policy on all patches being in 'C' language or somesuch, and DXVK doesnt meet that.
Im waiting for a fix to the stream output issue; I know either Vulkan needs to implement the feature, or a workaround needs to be built into DXVK for the witcher 3 (though then how many more workarounds will people want for their pet game!)
As for DX12 licenses, isnt DXVK between DX11 & VK not DX12?

Quoting: Whitewolfe80Damn witcher 3 is almost completely playable now, thats amazing and also a little worrying that devs are seeing this progress and just saying yup we dont even need to port it we can release a wine wrapper or just not bother and the community and the wine & dxvk teams will make it playable for those guys and ms will continue to rake in the licence fees for dx12.

Oh I agree with you that we shouldnt push publishers away, I think its just a mix of frustration from people that they cant play with their windows owning firends at release, and when it is released often windows playing friends have already moved on. And of course there is the case that without a day-1 release the game becomes lost in the crowd and by the time it releases for linux there isnt a media fanfare to remind people (Obviously we know you will let us know :) ).
I backed this on Kickstrater so my copy is already paid for just waiting for it to show in my library to download.

Quoting: liamdaweWhile it sucks it had a delay, it is still coming. We should still show companies our love and support for bothering in the first place (as long as the game doesn't suck obviously), the amount of companies that act like Linux doesn't exist is ridiculous (for various reasons, not arguing the reasons behind them doing so).
It is true a delayed release can hurt sales, absolutely, but let's not make that so because we're turning our noses up at it just because it was delayed. Imagine if the majority did the same for Aspyr or Feral releases, which can be years after the Windows game release, we would be fucked.

Yeah and it leads to a terrible catch-22 situation; in that as fewer Linux gamers buy it at initial release because is we arent day-1 then it drops to a well Ill pick it up on sale sort of buy. This hows in the sales stats so the next game is also not a day-1 releae and it perpetuates a cycle that often ends up in no linux version as we dont buy straight away because we want fresh releases with the rest of the gaming world.
likewise companies that invest in a day-1 linux release will likely see the opposite effect and say well Linux players bought the game at full price on around release, lets do that again.

Yep, missing day-1 is missing out on a lot of support I'm sure.
