Quoting: CorbenOh hell yeah. As soon as Elite: Dangerous runs on Linux with wine, I'll never have to boot into Windows again \o/
Would prefer a native Linux version of ED of course, but that's probably not gonna happen anytime soon, if at all.

I have ED havent played in an age as it doesnt run in wine, if it ever happens I will be booting it up in a shot to fly my trusty viper again

Quoting: ajgpI would be happy enough if Witcher 3 could be made to work in Wine, I have given up expecting it to be ported now but having played W1 (on windows and again in wine) and W2(Native) I really want to know how the whole thing ends.

Why not just pick up a cheap ps4 and play it on that?
That's what I did, I couldn't wait and quite honestly it is the best game I have ever played.

2 reasons really, 1. I cant justify the cost of a console I would barely use just for one game. ans 2. The biggie I already own it on PC; I bought it at release when I still did the odd bit of dual booting but by the time I finished playing whatever it was I was playing before I planned on W3 I had given up on dual booting so W3 sits in my library waiting for a time when it will be playable on linux, even if that is in 2 years time (i hope not).

If it by some miracle comes to Linux natively before wine matures to the point of making it playable I will pick up a second copy just to support Linux of course.

I suppose I would quite like he GWENT game as well!! But I have a decent backlog of first party and ported native games to play that while I admire wine for it's achievements I dont need it for my gaming on linux to be 'worthwhile'

Some thoughts on switching from Ubuntu to Antergos for Linux gaming
18 January 2017 at 10:29 pm UTC

I tried installing Anteregos but for some reason it wouldn’t accept my mouse input, so trying to tab through the installer is a pain. I am however going to try Arch once I finalise my setup in a VM going to bash script my way to an auto install. (Meaning If I break something I just have to run the script to restore rather than try and remember all my settings as I manually type the install process!

The release of Mesa 17 has seen a bit of a delay, for all the right reasons

Quoting: GuestThanks for the info.
I have an NVIDIA GTX870 in my laptop.
And was all excited about Vulcan.
But I guess I will have no benefit from it then?

Depending on how you read your comment there are two answers;

V1 -> So long as you use the Nvidia provided driver rather than opensource MESA as others poin out you dont need to worry about it.

V2 -> You will most definately benefit from Vulkan, the 870M is supported with the latest nvidia driver which includes Vulkan support. Of course tyhis requires an application/game to actually utilise the Vulkan API.

(I have a Nvidia card with the nvidia supplied driver and I dont really care about MESA other than if it has good performance it will make amd cards viable for gaming without lots of fiddling around which can only be a good thing.)
