Wow, I thought this game had fallen into development hell and been canned.
I liked the original homefront, and the concept is different - hopefully this has some promise.

Interview With The Developers Of Cossacks 3, Which Is Coming To Linux

I second this, it does appear that supporting linux may not give direct sales benefits but the extra support from Valve may lead to a total increase in profits; or perhaps Valve offers QA help. It is definately a topic I would like to see more information on, perhaps GOL needs to reach out to a few Devs on this subject and see what this support may be and how it factors into devlopers making the decision to support Linux. Im sure there are some who support Linux out of love, some because they want to spread the love as it were, and others it may be down to a business decision which would be were direct valve support would come in I reckon.
On topic, the game itself doesnt look to bad, will keep an eye on it and see how it develops, I have a soft spot for RTS games even though Im crap at them!

Quoting: Beamboom... "Steam actively supports games that have Linux versions" ...
... I get the impression Valve gives some concrete additional benefits for the devs if they release the game for Linux too. One can only wonder what: Promotional benefits? Visibility in the store? Economical advantages across all versions?

DiRT Showdown Tested On Linux, Preview Port Report

To be honest I wasnt specifically talking about VP doing a port of Dirt Rally, just that if it was ported by anyone (pref. natively) I would snap it up in a shot, but I can see how my comment could be seen that way.

Hmm, this is a maybe pickup; now if they ported Dirt Rally i would be in there like a shot as I vastly prefer the rally games; I pine for something with the career/ season that the old NetworkQ Rally game gave me.
Though I notice showdown is 70% off until the 10th of August; so if lucky that will mean if Im on the ball the sale will be in its last hours when showdown releases for linux and at £2.99 it may be worth a pickup.

VP port would certainly be quick and 'easy' though how good the end product would be is open to debate, while I had no major issues with W2, certainly nothing game breaking many did have issues to start with.
Also if CDPR also intends on releasing Cyberpunk for Linux as well it would be easier in the long run to do a proper engine port rather than a wrapper that would be specific to W3 (There was an excellent article on this site a while ago about the different types of port)

VP did the Witcher 2 port certainly; I must admit I do think that the W3 port would be internal though I would be more than happy if it was Asypyr or Feral even. I did enquire with CDPR about the W3 steamos / Linux version at the end of June and the response was that they were working on a SteamOS version but had no announced date as it was still a work in progress. But there was no clues as to if it was inhouse or with an external porting company.
Still I can dream :)

The State Of Unity On Linux

I have to say I never had too many problems withs Unity games on my Linux setup, certainly nothing that ever stopped me playing something due to artifacts or especially poor performance.
Whether that is because so long as the game is smooth for me I dont care how it stacks against other platforms or not is open for debate. But any improvements that can be gained on the Unity engine in Linux are always welcome.
