Valve & HTC launch the Vive VR device, without Linux & SteamOS support

There was a VR headset toting 150-180degree immersion, and also some with 4k. The issue that they had at the time of showing their early versions was weight/size so if those guys manage to sort those problems out then I don't think it needs to be a decision between the 2 big VR headsets atm for PC

I will see where VR goes during 2017, atm I'm not overly impressed with the resolution and I feel I won't be liking 1200p setup given I have been using 2160p for a long time now (going back in resolution so far REALLY hurts!).

This does mean I'll also need a videocard 2-3x faster then my current 390x, AMD/NVIDIA claiming 21TFLOPs is going to happen end of this year or in 2017, then that should be ok.

Someone will make a VR control wrapper soon enough to resolve/remap settings between the current VR Headsets, maybe even something for the PS4 headset. Really they are both similar and a simple middleman software hack can fix allot of issues.

It would be easier if game developers simply added a option to choose some OpenVR system that users can then load up their headset preset as needed instead of exclusively supporting a specific headset.

You can take them to court over this sort of thing btw. Here in Australia this would be illegal if they tried it, however that doesn't mean they can't just take your content and do whatever they want with it overseas. It will be interesting to see the fallout of this in the coming years, it will be VERY bad PR for them!

Allot of companies do this sort of thing now just to cover the basis's legally so no issues can arise. However if they stole something someone made and said person wanted to challenge them on it, they probably wouldn't have a leg to stand on. You can't 'truly' make a contract for a product that essentially says 'all your base belong to us', and if you do pray no one in your company is ever stupid to push it too far.

I'm pretty sure allot of their engine games have issues. I can't get them working with the OSS driver and a 390x, will give it another go once I get my card back (RMA)

They effectively signed a contract that said when they finished with the company they wouldn't work in their line of work for 12 or so months (basically told to flip burgers for 12months). Then when the employees finally left the job, other disgruntled staff left with them, which again was against the contract as that could be considered stealing staff.

You wouldn't catch me dead signing such a ethically WRONG contract!

PS. The contract is binding even if you were redundant or quit. STUPID.

I vaguely remember this game, I think at the time Risen got released and I shifted over to that. Would like to see a short play-through once this comes out to get a idea of how decent it is. If I remember correctly I wasn't all too impressed with the animation system (I hate rigid physics).

I will buy it once they actually have a Linux version out I think. (think I played a pirated version original :) )

I picked up all this in a humble bundle recently (for $12) which had a crap tonne of stuff in it, well worth it.

You can also look at the results here:
Phoronix AMD/NVIDIA comparison (recent)
I think you are overall wrong, AMD is having major issues keeping up in synthetic benchmarks also!

That's like saying all games and software under Linux are actually using OpenGL wrongly because AMD gets bad performance and NVIDIA doesn't.. so therefore AMD shouldn't really be trying to keep up with OGL performance...

I wasn't referring to COH2, but in general. SOME things work, most don't. I really don't care if there is a error in AMD's code, that's not my fault.

And while you pick at NVIDIA, they have a working driver that delivers 200-300% more performance over AMD, so I'll take dishonest code over broken and terrible code any day!

Phoronix has already compared the AMD/NVIDIA performance. Nvidia is still %200-300 faster then AMD cards, so a long way to go yet!
