Metro Exodus from 4A and Deep Silver has officially released for Linux

Because I have a 1440p display, but a not so beefy RX 580 4G GPU, I set the resolution to 720p and high details (so it's scaled directly by my monitor and is not blurred as a 1080p rescaled). The game run butter smooth for less than an hour, then it collapsed eating all my RAM (16GB + 4GB swap) and I had to reset the PC. I'm using Mesa 21.0.1.

Since then I haven't started the game again.

Buying the AMD Radeon RX 580 with only 4GB of RAM was one of the worst decisions of my life! To my defense, the 8GB version was nowhere to be found at the time... that said, is a great GPU!

Wasteland 3 gets a permadeath mode and skill respec in the 1.3.3 update

Quoting: TheSHEEEPNot a fan of respec - at least if it is given for free or very cheap.

The big fun in these games comes from the thinking you put into your builds, the preparations you do for them, and then seeing it all work out in action.
It forces commitment and is rewarding if done right.

When respec is free or cheap, that removes the need to put in any thinking and to plan ahead. There is no commitment and no reward of figuring it out. You can just brainfart your way around until something works.

That was also the big mood killer for me in Diablo 3. I didn't feel commited to any character for a single second as I knew I could just switch everything around at-will.

I share your opinion, but I disagree in some aspects, hope I can explain why, but I'm not a native english speaker, so excuse me if I'm not clear.

If you have a good ruleset (ie D&D) that you have studied, respec is not needed because you play using the rules as its best, and the rules usually are made to give you a balanced gameplay in every aspect.

But if the game is not well balanced as this Wasteland 3, which has rules that aren't describe anywhere and that you learn while playing, respec is very welcome, cheap or not. I played this game for 45 hours before losing interest. I can't invest more time on it, because at where I'm now I have to start a new gameplay, only to avoid wasting some ability points. I created a diversified party from the start (I played lots of RPG, and Wasteland 2 too), nevertheless this game forced me to waste points.

Furthermore, because of lots of random encounters against too strong opponents, having a good party is too seldom thwarted.

KDE will hopefully have a 'Production-ready' Wayland session for Plasma in 2021

There's also the KWinFT project to try. Release Notes for the latest release are interesting because they explain well the differences with actual KWin.

Quoting: uglyFor me, at least, it seems like it is caused by the 'Ambient Occlusion' setting. Turning that off and all the flickering disappeared.

This solved my problems, too!

Be sure your system is up to date, and report issues because I've seen plenty of others on Linux not seeing those problems. Could be Mesa specific (going by your system details on here).

I'm on Mesa 20.2.3. As @ugly said, disabling "Ambient Occlusion" solved all the flicker I had. Seems definitely a Mesa problem...

Quoting: ziabiceBefore I can't play the game because Proton can't run it, now I can't play it because Steam keeps on downloading the Windows version instead of the Linux one.

Yes, I already unchecked the "Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool" option, deleted all the original downloaded files, restarted Steam several times, (re)downloaded several times, but nothing helped me. Any advice?
You could try forcing the Steam Linux Runtime which should install the native version.

That did the trick! Thank you!

I've been playing it on Proton? I believe it was the 5.9 GE version though, not 5.13 based.

I use (and will continue to use) vanilla Proton: there's a problem with video codecs that Proton-GE solves.
