It looks like good, frantic fun. For $10, one could easily try it for an hour to make sure it runs well and return it if not.

Added to wish list. I'll get it once it's out and introduce my kids to a racing game.

A writer for Forbes has been talking about the positives of switching to Linux

Quoting: KristianAside from gaming what are the most cited missing applications? MS Office? Visual Studio? Autocad? Adobe's suite of software? Anything else?
For people that are OK with running hosted software, the online version of Office is available to use on Linux. I think Manjaro even installs links to it if I remember correctly.

No, I'm not a fan of hosted software myself. But you know what, many other people are. To increase the Linux desktop user base, we need those "many other people."

Quoting: SalvatosWell that's refreshing indeed - also Ubuntu has changed more than I knew since I last used it.

But the fact that it lets you opt out of data collection at first launch instead of asking you to opt in still doesn't feel right. It's not the Linux way, if I have any authority to say so myself.
Hmm... I do not think this screen is that bad of a way to ask.

Very cool that Forbes is writing about Linux.

The developer of the dungeon crawler Gloomhaven is keeping an eye on Linux support requests

I play the board game with two of my friends on a regular basis, about once a month. It's really good. It's also huge and takes a lot of setup time. I'm very glad that one of my friends took on the board game hobby to a level way beyond myself because he buys and then learns and teaches all the games.

For that reason, I actually don't plan on buying the computer version of Gloomhaven. I am already experiencing the game. On computer, I'd rather play a game like Sword Coast Legends or NWN.

I never liked CS:GO that much. I only bought it about 2 years ago or so. I find Insurgency a lot more fun to play with my friends.

Jesus
If they pull that off , that's amazing

But will it add anything? The difference between a 10 person game and a 100 person game is that it adds a "loot" stage to the game while still having to watch your back. This required a bigger map and more players to pull off. But what will they do with a thousand players? You could make the map bigger, which would make games longer than they need to be. Making it busier would make things very chaotic from the start. They could also change the game concept entirely and make something that doesn't resemble the current BR games. Obviously, the latter would be the most interesting.
If they control starting location density by spawns instead of parachuting, it could work without making the map too large. Way more action. Map shrinks sooner. There are definitely ways to make 1,000 players work while balancing session length, I think.

Reminds me of Rock 'n' Roll Racing for SNES, which I loved as a kid. I'll have to get this so I can be like every parent and make their kids do what they used to do. :)

SCUM, a very exciting sounding open-world survival game should come to Linux
29 August 2018 at 10:14 pm UTC

Quoting: CaenthAnother survival game in Early Access. Can't even recall the amount of them anymore and still waiting for a decent one to be actually released. Hard pass.
FWIW, Don't Starve, Starbound, ARK, and Rust are fully released. SCUM, in fact, releases today. I do, however, agree that the Early Access trend for build+survive games is tiring. I don't think it's going to go away. It will only shift to whatever is the most popular genre of game to create. Early Access, while maybe annoying, is pretty attractive to publishers that want to get paid during development. As long as people pay, it won't go away.

As far as SCUM goes, I think the trailer looked quite fun. I'll surely pick it up if the reviews are good after it runs on Linux.

Valve have rolled out Steam Play into the stable Linux Steam Client, along with touch controls for Steam Link

Well, this is nice because I am not usually inclined to install a beta version in order to get features early.
