Albion Online developer explains why existing owners won't see a Steam key

Quoting: nitroflowThe option would be opening a web page to their store front for micro transactions instead of relying on the steam API, unless the steam API is forced on them. At least with Shroud of the Avatar that seems the way it works, you go to it's website, buy what you want and then redeem the stuff in game after the fact.
I'm surprised to hear that setup. I remember years ago when EA pulled out a bunch of their newer games because Steam wouldn't allow them to sell DLC within game. I think that today you still only see "Gold" or "GOTY" editions of EA games because DLC is complete and included in the game. Hearing what you say, perhaps opening a website is technically acceptable since it's not in-game...?

If it's true that Valve would take a cut on all in-game purchases (again, they're probably just not allowed), then that makes a lot of sense why several MMO's are either not in Steam or don't get into Steam until they're released for a couple years.

Nice to see an MMO on Linux. Also, their website still functions with NoScript turned on. Kinda cool. Still, now is not the right season for me to play a subscription game.

I went to look at a gameplay trailer and it said there is a co-op story mode. I will probably buy this. :)

Quoting: 14I'm still going to hold off until I hear about AMD GPU problems and glitches and games not launching or games crashing less often.

That you can track here for example:

* Current known issues
* Fixed issues from the above list

That should give you an idea about how less often it happens.

It's not a 100% full list, but it's pretty comprehensive, and Mesa developers monitor it and take note of these reports. They explicitly asked to make such list.

Quoting: 14I've basically had zero issues using the proprietary drivers in GNU Linux.
No driver is bug free. Nvidia has its share of bugs, but you won't see most of them reported. The benefit of using an open driver is that bug reports are public.
Thanks for the information.

Ash of Gods is a gorgeous but deeply flawed adventure

BTRE, you did a great job on this review! It was focused yet explanatory, seemed fair to both creators and consumers, and showcased the amount of time you spent not only playing the game but researching the out-of-game details.

After reading the beginning paragraphs, I was thinking I'd like the game more than you sounded like you did. However, once you started talking about the combat, I didn't think I'd enjoy it anymore.

That said, Nyarlathotep also has good points. The game is only $20 on release day with Linux support right out of the gate. I don't really want to feel like I'm donating $20 and getting this game as a trinket, but it might not be a terrible idea for the generous.

Quoting: 14AMD GPU experience on Linux isn't attractive.

It's pretty smooth these days for games. And way more attractive than Nvidia integration wise.
It's obvious you love Linux and open source, but it seems to me like you might be a little bit jaded. Mixing your comments in with other people (this topic and others), I'm still going to hold off until I hear about AMD GPU problems and glitches and games not launching or games crashing less often. I don't think I'm an Nvidia fanboy -- I've gone back and forth -- but I've basically had zero issues using the proprietary drivers in GNU Linux. FWIW, I have other computers in the house using older AMD cards on Linux. Can't say I can complain, but the only gaming those computers see is Minecraft and sometimes WoW.

I want to go team red for both CPU and GPU the next time I do big hardware upgrades, but the AMD GPU experience on Linux isn't attractive. I look forward to that changing.

I'm pretty convinced on going AMD CPU next time though, maybe this year since I've been wanting more threads than my i5 offers.

Quoting: 14I still haven't played a rogue game. I believe I have one in my library but I've never played it. It doesn't get me excited I guess. This game sounds really interesting. I'm looking forward to BTRE's review.
There's very little that's rogue-like about it. Pretty much just some random encounters (not procedurally-generated, just happening at non-prescribed times during your travels; as far as I know at least) and the fact that you can lose characters forever, which is hardly uncommon to party-based games in general. What's less common about it I guess is that even the main characters can die without game over. I do wonder how that would work out since the story I've seen so far very much revolves around them.
Thanks. Yeah, that must be why this game sounds fun and interesting to me -- it's not a rogue game.
