Aspyr Media confirm cross-platform multiplayer for Civilization VI with the next patch
3 April 2017 at 5:36 pm UTC

This is pretty great news for me. My friends have thought about getting this one. If I couldn't play with them, then I wouldn't even consider buying it. It's not that I never play single player games, but I'm just never that excited to load them up.

Installation 01, a fan-made Halo game plans Linux support
27 March 2017 at 3:57 pm UTC

Wow. I'm impressed. It's one thing to make models look similar, but the physics and animation are very similar too! I would really like to play it someday.

Vikings - Wolves of Midgard to have a Linux version after the initial Windows release

This is the first I've heard of this game, but man, that trailer made it look really, really good. I don't think I can continue liking myself if I don't buy it.

A look at how much RAM you might need as a Linux gamer

The only two things that have exhausted my 8GB RAM (and I don't use a paging file usually) are ARK and virtual machines. Those issues aren't frequent enough to make me upgrade yet. It's funny that I've been running 8GB for probably 12 years now.

My wife, though... yeah, she has 32GB in her laptop.

Razer looking to improve Linux support on their 'Blade' series of laptops
14 March 2017 at 8:52 pm UTC

I would definitely have Razer on my shopping list the next time I look for laptops if they support Linux. In fact, I already looked at Razer the last time I shopped for my wife. We ended up choosing a System76.

How to livestream from Linux to Twitch, a simple guide to being awesome on Linux

Scaling the output resolution is more demanding on local hardware but saves on upload bandwidth. If you wanted to save on processing time, you'd need to change the resolution in your game itself.

Depending on the game you're playing, you may want to use CPU or GPU encoding... whichever has more processing power to spare.

Faeria, the rather good free to play turn-based card battler has a final release and now official Linux support
14 March 2017 at 4:28 pm UTC

I'm glad this is out. I've been watching it and trying it for a long time. I really like Solforge, but it doesn't play on Linux. Faeria is what I'm hoping to be the replacement.

Looks like the experimental Linux version of Arma 3 will get the 64bit treatment

Quoting: TheRiddickMiracle, ironically if they switched their engine to Vulkan then they could spin a very effective linux port themselves rather then doing this slow outsourcing work thing which sees the Linux users unable to enjoy mods or multiplayer due to version mismatches!
You make it sound so easy.

Heroes of Arca, a turn-based strategy and RPG released for Linux, some thoughts

Call me picky, but I wouldn't want to play it just by looking at the first screenshot.

Thanks for the review.

The Wild Eight is another game funded by Kickstarter that decided to delay the promised Linux version
17 February 2017 at 2:42 pm UTC

Quoting: Mountain ManIt's about time for Linux gamers to boycott Kickstarter. With over 3000 Linux games currently on Steam, and more being released every day, we can afford to be choosy.
I think you're right.

Well, at least now I don't have to feel bad for removing them from my Steam Activity Feed. They were less spammy than others, but it was getting a little crowded. I like my feed to mostly have friend info with a scattering of updates from games I follow.
