Canonical bring more Steam Snap improvements, also hiring more Desktop Software Engineers

Quoting: kaimanBut why would the maker of the distro go that route, especially if it goes hand in hand with a degradation of the user experience!?
You know who else does this but doesn't get a bad rap for it? NixOS.

Borderlands 4 is coming in 2025
23 August 2024 at 1:21 pm UTC

I've played each of the main Borderlands games. I can't remember if I finished all of them, but I know I at least finished BL3. No complaints. I'd be interested in a fourth.

MudRunner and SnowRunner creator announced RoadCraft a heavy machinery construction sim

By hours played, SnowRunner is #5 in my Steam library. If you have one or more friends you like to chat with, it's a cool game to cooperate and chat since it's not intense gameplay, but cooperation does make a difference and is impactful. You can have your friend bring a support vehicle with gas or crane, or take two loads at once, etc.

Path of Exile 2 hits Early Access on November 15

I still have not purchased Last Epoch even though I was excited for it to release for years. Why? Because it looks like the co-op is not impactful. Reading reviews and watching streams shows that it doesn't matter whether you are playing with someone or not. It's not harder. You don't need to work together. It is just a loot grind with no risk of dying.

If that is different in PoE2, I will be interested.

Manjaro Linux gets an Immutable version available for testing

I think these immutable boutique spinoffs can result in good workplace management strategies, but I don't really like it for home use. Container workloads are gross.

AMD Ryzen 9000 Series processors dates and prices revealed

I'm still on a 2700X and don't feel it holds me back from anything. When the 3700X came out, I really wanted the wattage drop, but not enough to pay for it. I may upgrade my core components in 2025 (working on GPU this year), but the chipset and storage interfaces would be the primary driver there. The CPU upgrade would simply be neat.

Now, this X3D feature everyone is talking about is unknown to me, so time to do some reading and get starry-eyed maybe.

EDIT: After looking at Phoronix and Microcenter, it seems to me the X3D processors were not wonderful for gaming initially, but seem good now...? An older 5800X3D article didn't look attractive, but when it's seen in a later 7900X3D article, it looks fine. But I don't know I'm convinced X3D are worth the $$ yet due to lack of cooler and higher power in contrast to the 65W models. According to PassMark, the 5700X compared to the 7900X3D is half the performance and half the TDP while being 39% of the cost.

It's also cool that this got promoted out of the AUR a while ago and is more conveniently in the extra repository.

I am not a game developer (never say "never"), but I still really appreciate this write-up as a Linux and F/OSS enthusiast!

DRAG returns as ExoCross, an offroad racing game with 4CPT vehicle physics

This game felt and looked promising long ago. I just checked Steam reviews; doesn't sound like there is enough to do in the game to justify the cost at this point.
