PAYDAY 2 on Linux & SteamOS, some thoughts & port report
28 March 2016 at 11:26 pm UTC

The game is crashing every few minutes for me. I can't even start a game!

My relevant specs are:
CPU: Intel i5-4460
GPU: AMD Radeon HD 6970 (using open source radeon driver in Debian GNU/Linux 8.3 stable/jessie amd64)
RAM: 16 GB DDR3 1600 MHz (but, dmidecode -t 17 says Speed: 1600 MHz and Configured Clock Speed: 1333 MHz - if someone knows what this means and why it is the case, please let me know, because if it means that my RAM is running slower than it should, I don't understand why)

Tomb Raider, the excellent 2013 game is officially coming to Linux from Feral Interactive

Although I kind of expected this, the official confirmation gives me some kind of relief about it in fact being ported . . . I'm really looking forward to playing this game (for the first time). :P ;)

Does any one else have this demo crash right after launching? (I'm using Debian 8.3 stable/jessie with an HD6970 using the open-source radeon drivers.)

QuoteValve is making games exclusive to their "platform", which is Steam, the same way Microsoft is making games exclusive to their Xbox/Windows store
If you're referring to the Source 2 engine, to my knowledge, Valve is not saying that games made using that engine cannot be sold outside of Steam; Valve is simply saying that, the Source 2 engine games must be sold in either Steam alone or Steam in addition to any other store.

Oh no, I just mean that PC versions of Valve games (Half-Life, Counter-Strike, Left 4 Dead, Dota 2, Portal) are only playable on Steam, even if you buy a physical copy.

Edit: Same goes for EA and Ubisoft. EA games require Origin and Ubisoft games require Uplay
Oh, now I see what you meant. You and tony1ab both make valid points. :) While Valve is not making third-party games be exclusively sold on Steam, it's still restrictive (but to a lesser extent) to have their (first-party) games sold only on Steam, because it encourages vendor lock-in to some extent (unless you're willing to play those games outside of the PC ecosystem).

Quoting: Renzatic GearOut of curiosity, you have to play a game for X amount of hours before it's counted as a Linux sale in Steam, correct?

I ask because I can jump between Windows and Ubuntu, and make a direct comparison of the performance between the two platforms, but I want to make sure this counts as a Linux purchase before I make the attempt.
It seems to me that, assuming you play the game within the week from purchase, you need to have played for the majority of the time on Linux. If you don't play the game at all within the first week, the platform you purchased on is deemed the platform the game is counting as (where Android does not count as Linux - only desktop Linux counts as Linux).

Tomb Raider, the awesome 2013 version looks like it's heading to SteamOS & Linux

Yes!!!

I was waiting for a SteamOS/Linux version of this, even though I didn't feel like it was likely to come! (I'm quite patient.)

When I buy it, it will count as a Linux sale! :D
