Proposed Windows NT sync driver brings big Wine / Proton performance improvements

So the numbers are without esync/fsync vs the new ntsync?

It would be interesting to see a comparison between fsync and ntsync, my guess is there is little to no difference performance wise but I would love to be proved wrong.

ELDEN RING gets patched to fix up anti-cheat on Steam Deck SteamOS

I find it interesting that while some big studio's are eager to support anti-cheat on Steam Deck others keep making excuses that it's too unsafe to do.

MSI officially announced the Claw A1M handheld with Intel

With all these Windows handhelds being released I wonder how long it will be before Windows introduced a custom OS that competes with SteamOS.

My hope is it won't be for sometime as Valve have an advantage here and I want to see the last hold outs in Antic-cheat cave in and support Linux. It's always that last few percent of popular games that is used as an excuse not to embrace the platform even if it is better than Windows in most other ways.

Fortnite on Linux / Steam Deck? Not until 'tens of millions of users'

I don't think Valve have reached 10 million Steam Deck users yet but it's definitely in the multiple millions. We may have to wait until Steam Deck 2 before the Sweeney budges position. I honestly don't understand why they don't hire 2 or 3 programmers to handle a Linux store front. It wouldn't cost them much and it would be relatively easy for them to integrate Proton into their launcher just like Steam does.

Like others are saying, the only reason they won't do it is because they think it's helping their competition.. But I would actually consider stopping my boycott of the Epic store if they gave us proper Linux support.

Steam Deck OLED hits retail stores on December 12th in Asia

Valve knows we exist, and Valve knows our strong refund-focused consumer protections exist...
Honestly don't think that would be a problem for Valve. They have a refurbished line of Steam Decks for quite some time. Also in the example of New Zealand, I would have thought Gabe would want his products in that country since it's almost his adoptive country from the pandemic period. Maybe the demand is higher in other countries and they are prioritizing a very slow rollout.

I wonder what the hold up is in places like Australia and New Zealand for example? They're in the same region and still nothing, nadda. I don't get it.

I would think Valve would want to be selling in as many places as possible.

Xorg is dead, long live Wayland - Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) dropping Xorg

I keep trying Wayland but I always find small issues that ruin the experience for me. With it becoming the default on more and more distro's, my hope is the final issues that I keep bumping into will be ironed out.

Diablo IV free to play on Steam until Tuesday
24 November 2023 at 11:03 pm UTC

I will buy the game at some point as I've played all the previous versions of Diablo. I'm struggling to get hyped for it tho. My friend has finished the game and the fact he doesn't feel the urge to go back and play more is telling. He's finished all the other Diablo games many times with multiple characters.

Proton Experimental fixes controls in Starfield and supports Assassin's Creed Mirage

It makes sense to fix non-steam games because they may very well be on steam in the future. Valve also want Linux to be a viable alternative to Windows so they would be happy to see other studios join in. I predict if the steam deck keeps succeeding and growing we will see more native launchers for Linux.

Building a Retro Linux Gaming Computer Part 34: Abusing the System

I never expected Abuse to be talked about on this site ever. I was only just talking about this game with a friend the other month as I was getting nostalgic. I didn't even know they did a Linux release. Neat.
