Is DE bashing considered a hobby by now? Really boring.
I really like gnome shell but usually prefer alternative applications to stuff like Nautilus(?Files?), Evolution, etc. I'm currently on KDE, but maybe I'll switch back to gnome, soon :)

Nope, I was just sharing my feelings when exposed to it - someone told me it's all about the feels these days ;-). Was not supposed to have an influence on your opinion. Feel free to like whatever you do, but be aware that, you liking it, does not mean it can not anger or confuse me.

HDD went to sleep and motor powered down? When remounting, the drive would be woken up.

nope: I had the slow start problem for quite a few months now (one of the Steam patches). Neither library repair, changing between beta and stable client nor removal/addition of the Steam-libraries was able to fix it. It seems starting Steam with HDD (containing one of the libraries) unmounted caused some configuration file to be rewritten which fixed the problem.

well, core2quad here with 2.66 GHz so, yes, it hopefully is otherwise I will never have a reason to upgrade ;-)
We managed to solve the issue (see above) and I am now down to ~12 seconds.

Once you removed your hd, the client only read the games from ssd (which is way faster) then it doesn't have the bottleneck.
