Quoting: Tchey(hunt for bigger mechs, hunt for perfect refits, win until you face bigger mechs, hunt for bigger mechs, etc. The smaller ones are more or less useless the more you progress, sadly).
Hmm, my main char did pretty much 95% of missions in a more or less stock Shadowhawk (55t) and our scout was always with us in his 2mlaser,2slaser,2mg Firestarter (35t) and pretty high up on the killboard so I would not exactly call the lighter mechs useless ;-) But yes you can fall into a power creep trap in this game if you do not actively to at least partly avoid it.

Quoting: Purple Library GuyThat's pretty much how I feel about the Shadowrun paper & pencil roleplaying game. But for the computer games I'm not really a seasoned enough gamer to make that critique; what do they do wrong?
For shadowrun ist mostly in the UI department and some elements of the P&P mechanics do not translate that well into the computerised version and feel..well..lacking.
For Battletech I see a problem with the powercreep (mechlab, +++weapons/equipment, mechwarriorskillsystem) mostly. They fall into the "must give players new shiny carrot to keep them motivated trap" here and partly hurt core gamemechanics and thus long term motivation. One example: minimum range of certain weapons is something that you normaly have to consider in BT meaning you have to position yourself properly to be effective. In this game the combination of passive skills that reduce the minimum range and accuracy boni by + weapons/equipment and gunnery skill progression lead to a point where you do not have to care about that anymore. They make the game more simplistic over time.
Thus being said: The pros far outweight the cons on both franchises for me.

Having completed the campaign with 90 hours on the clock in the Linux beta I can happily declare the singleplayer part well worth playing.
Only gamestoping technical issue I came across is that LC_ALL=C %command% in the launch options is required for none US players.
A bit like the Shadowrun titles this game does a lot of things wrong but for some reason it's still incredibly fun to play.<3

Egosoft to launch X4: Foundations on November 30th, hopefully with a Linux beta build

Quoting: TheSyldatOkay legit tiny little question.

Does one need to plug in a flight stick for those or are they playable with just keyboard and mouse ?

I doubt that it will work with regular controller as well so I won't even ask.

I'd like to get into one of those but I'm always worried that I'll have to retort to a flight stick in order to fully enjoy them.

Unfortunately the X games are notoriously bad in terms of flightstick support and configuration.
So yes, you are good to go with keyboard and rodent.

Quoting: SchattenspiegelHmm...menu and intro videos and character creation play nicely but I am stuck on the prepping for battle screen in the native beta :-(
...

Have you tried adding LC_ALL=C %command% to the launch options? Fixed all the issues I had.

Hey, you saved my weekend! That was indeed the solution.

EDIT : SOLVED by putting LC_ALL=C %command% into the launch options
Bug report browsing reveals quite a few similar issues in the windows version but I guess I will try to see if Lutris comes up with similar problems - another 7 hours download then ...

Finally! Guess I know what the weekend will look like now ;-)

Developers should not be allowed to pull native versions after selling them.
What we need is the ability to choose whether we want to install the native or foreign version in Steam.

If a developer is willing or forced by circumstances to take the reputation hit of recommending the non-native version over the busted native one - so be it, but the choice which version to use needs to stay with the customer.

One would assume they would have mentioned it in the patch notes. For last week I can confirm bad performance random crashes and giant trees outside my cockpit window. Groundforces worked okish. Not sure about now, but I do not feel like downloading the patch currently.

What are you playing this weekend?

Chaos Reborn, Dirt Rally and maybe a little Endless Space 2(proton)

Quoting: DuncHeh. After me saying just this afternoon that Risen works perfectly apart from not saving, it now doesn't start at all.

Still, it doesn't seem to have broken anything else, although I haven't had time to properly test it all yet.
Try to find the configuration file and reset the refreshrate to 60. Helped the last time i updated my wine version for risen.
