Since i relegated nvidia to a mere on-demand graphic accelerator by using prime offloading (how many years we've had to wait for the driver to support an ancient feature? Can't remember), i started to enjoy:
YAY!
(edit, i just forgot how bad are nvidia drivers in memory managment, this is evident when you hit the limit by using proton!)
- A much snappier desktop environment (with a poor intel igp from my i5 Haswell!)
- High resolution terminals even without grub and/or uefi
- Kmsgrab working in ffmpeg
- Glitchless resume from hibernation and suspend (texture corruption)
- Glitchless vt switching (desktop corruption)
- The ability to start multiple xorg sessions without having graphic corruption in the other one
- Good power managment (not excellent, because the GTX always stays on, but certanly better than using the 1060 as the primary gpu, when it jumped to maximum power draw by just moving a window and stayed there for 30 seconds or more).
- Reliable reporting of what display is connected

Last time i tried, cpu use was way lower whith proton than with the native ags.

Quoting: heidi.wengerSo the Technobabylon works fine with Proton but i suppose this helps to reach even better performance if i got it right what Luxtorpeda / AGS is.

They should handle that cases differently, hardlinks if the filesystem is the same at least, symlinks in other cases and triggering the rebuild of the profile in the corner cases automatically.
Let's hope for the better.

Quoting: DrDickGindQuoting: SpykerThis 5.13 update has been really rocky for me. I still have to deal with a lot of regressions, like my optimus laptop not working anymore with proton titles, even when I come back to 5.0.10 now it seems broken (probably a mix-up with runtime libs as weel). I really hope they get it squared out soon.
Yes Proton 5.13 handles somethings in the wineprefixes different: It creates symlinks instead of copying the files. So if you go back to on older version, the symlinks cannot be overwritten and nothing works anymore.
As a workaround you can delete the wineprefix for your game in $SteamLibraryDir$/steamapps/compatdata/
Start the game again, with an older proton version and all will be fine

I finished Hellblade, not native, but runs well with some tweaking to the settings on a "poor" 1060 3GB after setting my monitor to 50hz.
Anyway, man, what an experience, play with earbuds in a dark room and enjoy.
Very interesting the final documentary too.
Ninja theory releases are for PS3/4 and or windows only, but they really deserve attention.
I read that they have been hired by Microsoft and hopefully they will develop Hellblade 2 for PC.
Now i'm trying to enjoy the observer, on my backlog since 2 years and...meh.
Someone say you neey a couple of hours to get into the story, but i already smell i'm not going to like the repetitive gameplay, who knows.
Also, mouse controls are somehow funky...sometimes is better with a joypad, some others with the mouse. Very distracting.

EDIT ok, i'm into the story and it is definitely better.
Mouse problems are still there thoug.

Quoting: RoosterHas anyone tried Red Dead 2 with this version?Did not tried personally, but the article explicitely states:
QuoteApart from that, it sounds like a huge release including lots of new playable titles like: Red Dead Redemption 2, Horizon Zero Dawn, DEATH STRANDING, Sea of Thieves, Age of Empires III, Call of Duty: WWII, Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and others....so did the official repo:

I don't know about fsync, but Keyrock said that.
Anyway, from the link you posted it doesn't sound THAT bad, at least there's hope:

Quoting: ShmerlI asked wine-staging developers, they said the changes in Wine are so significant, that maintaining esync patches is too much work, that's why they were dropped.
See: https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=36692#c16
I didn't know fsync stopped working though. That sounds worse.

QuoteCurrently the wine-staging "eventfd_synchronization" patch set is disabled. Due to the current and ongoing work in ntdll.so, it will need significant work to rebase
