Quoting: hardpenguinMeanwhile I am here with a couple of niche games using D3D8 that are currently crashing in Wine :S:

You can use Dgvoodoo2 for DX8 games, and Dgvoodoo2 WIP57 for DX9 games. It translate DirectX calls from any version to DX10 or DX11, then DXVK will translate them to Vulkan.

As far as I know it is not open source, so it doesn't sound like an interesting approach to me!
But you're still interested in playing closed source software (games), right?
Sounds weird to me.

I'm interested in technology. As such I use and follow open source projects as much as possible. A game is usually only a one time enjoyment. But to answer your question, no, I'm not interested in playing only a closed source game, Linux and other open source projects are a precondition for me to enjoy it :-)

Ok, but still...
There are tons of preconditions for you to enjoy it, starting from the kernel to the tons of wrapped wine libraries.
What difference can do just a native library?
So i can desume that when a game needs winetricks you are just not interested anymore in playing it?

Quoting: torbidoI use Dgvoodoo2 WIP57 >>> http://www.dege.freeweb.hu/ which translate older DirectX versions to DX10 or DX11. That could help running older games that don't run well on Wine.
What about the performance? Do you know how much overhead is to be expected?

Gonna play everything to just see how it looks.
By now, Soma and everspace win!
Eheh, that’s my monitor too and yes, great blacks with much better contrast in dark areas than on my previous TN.
The only problem is the trails some colors leave when scrolling, but it’s not too bad.

Edit: oh and the horrible bright blue screen when the screensaver starts… :(
I'm using no screensaver, but when there is no signal coming from the gpu (inactivity timeout), it simply display "no signal" and the green led turns orange.
But i've no blue screen at all (maybe you mean the purple one when it starts?)

Quoting: somebody1121I also tried Deus Ex MKD but doesn't start.

Could it be trying to start in dx12 mode?

I set to be windows 7 with winetricks so i don't think it's the case. Maybe a bug with dxvk, wine or radv...

Doesn't work for me, and i'm using nvidia blob; didn't do anything special to wine/proton configuration
