I kinda totally forgot about those. Probably due to the other award show they were involved in, lol.

Quoting: WorMzyPretty lacklustre choices for the Steam Awards -- only four categories have Linux games as options. :(
I doubt I'll buy anything in the sales, I barely have time to play anything these days.

Lol- good luck! I did not purchase any games in 2021 and for 2022, I think I bought Monster Sanctuary and some DLC for Cities: Skylines. I did get a few of the free give aways, though.
I've found it oddly pleasant not buying a bunch of games and I've been playing more, enjoying the games I do have.
I do intend to buy a few games in the future, but only when I'm ready to play them (sales be damned, lol):
Rimworld's DLC
Skyrim (if it seems like the mod situation is pretty stable on Linux)
Factorio's DLC
I'm sure there's other games, but I can't think of them off the top of my head, so they must not be that interesting (to me).

QuoteWhat will I be picking up? Nothing! I'm finally taking a stand, locking my wallet away and going through some games I picked up in previo…oh look at that Life is Strange: True Colors is 60% off — oops.

Star Wars Dark Forces lives on again with The Force Engine

Dark forces was my first FPS. It's a great game. I think it was one of the first FPS's to have functional balconies and bridges; something they showed off a bunch in the level design.
The Dark Troopers.... Dudes were tough.

We may get a Steam Controller 2, plus fun updates coming to Steam Deck

I like the Stream Controller, but, I've found I also enjoy the Switch Controller (by 8bitdo). The reversed button order is annoying, but I've found it is just the right size for my hands without causing discomfort. I'd really need to try to figure out how to make it easier to switch between the Nintendo and PC. The Steam controller does a nice job for switching between Link and PC, so hopefully I can get the switch controller to do it without frustration.
Xfce 4.18 desktop is finally here

KDE is perfectly fine, as is Gnome. XFCE is more stripped down compared to those. There's fewer options, toggles and features. There's also much less "bloat", in terms of branded companion apps (or ecosystem rather). It's a much lighter DE, which has some positives and drawbacks.
I prefer it for those reasons. I don't need a special package manager front end, email client, and other things. Yes, I know these extras in K+G are optional, but removing can be difficult due to the way dependencies are handled in different distros, and it takes time. I'd rather spend that time adding specifically what apps I want.
I guess if you aren't using the K+G ecosystems and mostly use your DE as a standard desktop, you might like XFCE's simplicity. On the other hand, if you use tons of widgets, custom shortcuts and workflows, and rely heavily on K+G apps, you might find it frustrating, or very time consuming to set up.

Quoting: MinuxI've always been a huge fan of KDE. I've tried xfce but not much. Do you recommend it? How would you compare it to KDE?

I'm glad the decks are going out to people, but I do find it odd they have to essentially bribe viewers with a giveaway to watch the show, lol.

This is probably my favorite DE. Gnome and KDE are nice, but they are heavy and very full off features and other things. More like a whole suite. XFCE I like because there's not a lot too it. It's stays out of my way and let me game and do other basic things.
I'm glad it's getting some love.

Valve has finally fixed the Steam Remote Play audio loss bug on Linux
14 December 2022 at 4:22 pm UTC
Yeah, I've had this bug since it was introduced in 2019. Restarting the stream didn't always work. A reboot would, but that kinda defeated the purpose of remote play.
I'm glad they finally fixed it. I'm curious as to how it got introduced in the first place.

Quoting: hardpenguinHuh, it never affected me THAT much. I guess my gaming sessions are short 😅. Plus one could restart the stream every now and then. Anyway, glad it is fixed!

The Tactician's Bundle is a great deal with Gears Tactics, Mechanicus, Hard West & more

Thanks for the hint on the bundle!
Some of these look interesting, but I must admit, for the few free funds I do have, The Image Comic's Bundle is very tempting. Saga alone is worth the 25$. I just finished reading it up to the end of volume 9 from my local library. It's very good.

Lots of good stuff announced at The Game Awards 2022 — roundup

Ya know the more I think about it, was the awards show any good?? I'm thinking not.
Yeah there were a ton of announcements, but.... It's cool and all, but I could watch any of those trailers when they drop on YouTube. And that really doesn't help differentiate it from an infomercial.
I get the ads and trailers and their necessity. I guess I wish there was a little more about the nominated games, their designers, and the creative process. I think that would have been cool.
On top of that, for Valve and their giveaway, it was a technical shit show. The stream keep crashing, kicking people off, the "ticker" counter would randomly reset or slowdown. Their two factor authentication system crashed. I'm not sure how much they were paid to participate or what other arrangements they had, but it made the awards look bad and incompetently run.
Unfortunately I can't comment on the skits and other things. It took 90 min for me to even get the stream working and I never got consistent audio (either nothing or distortions that made it incomprehensible).
Maybe next year they will have their act together, but I doubt I'll be watching.
