Great game. Great write up too. It's fiendishly hard for a game, yet the stories and successes that come out of it are too good to make one not want to try again!

I was actually going to mention Android in my first post, but didn't want to get too long winded.
We are actually in agreement to a good degree, I think. A similar strategy to Android is "possible", just not for Valve. Sarmand and CatKiller did an excellent job explaining the economic side above. And even with Android, Linux is still here and improving.
Either way, I hope Linux keeps getting the live it deserves from everyone!

i disagree, android has proven that its possible.
but i dont think valve has the resource to pull an android aproach, nor that they will even try.

I also agree, but I'm a little less skeptical than you. I'm probably in between you and Liam Dawe.
Valve is definitely in the Extend phase of EEE for Linux and wine, and I can see at some point they may consider making the jump to Extinguish (pairing steam off of Linux into it's own thing), but I don't see that as likely or feasible.
1). They lack the resources. Valve is 100% dependant on the free labor of the open source communities. While they've done great work, most of the heavy lifting was done long ago by others.
2). Linux being open source, it simply can't be tossed out, the way Microsoft or Apple can get rid of stuff since it's all in house.
Linux will be just fine.
I would love to see more Linux support, I hope more games target native/wine in the future.
By chance, are there indicators on how well the deck is doing? I don't read much gaming news elsewhere, and it seems it's doing really well in reviews from what I can tell.

Quoting: setzer22Currently, the only comfortable way to game on the deck is to go via the Steam interface, and even things like emulators need to be wired as non-steam games or they simply won't work well. We need more Lutris, we need more sc-controller, and we need more of whatever is to come that will help us make our Decks less "Steam" gaming machines and more "Linux" gaming machines

Quoting: Liam DaweI actually agree there too, which is why I continue to hope the Deck pushes Linux Gaming forwards, so that a bigger market opens up so more stores and vendors take notice :)

I'm not really a fan of the genre, but this looks awesome. I will have to check out the demo when it releases.
Sorry Arch (EndeavourOS), it's not working out any more and hello Fedora

I really like Debian, OpenSuse TW, and recently, Manjaro.
All three really showcase some of the best things I like about Linux and have a few cool things to add as well.
Not that there aren't others I've tried, or other worthy distros to use, those just happen to be the ones I'm most fond of.
I'm using Debian for my home server, same install for almost ten years ( I'm not really sure how to tell since everything in the server has been replaced a few times). I love it because it's stupid simple.
I recently switched to Manjaro for my PC and laptop after several years of OpenSuse. No major problems with OpenSuse, but I was surprised at how fast and snappy Manjaro ran on my old laptop. XFCE is my preferred DE, so I like that it's the default on Manjaro.

I'm actually really surprised how well it scales to such a small screen. It looks really nice!
The Steam Deck hit me over the head with feelings of nostalgia

Or comfort, or social. One of the reasons I don't play often is that my PC is in our bedroom. It's like locking myself away from my family. Many nights are quiet phone browsing or reading with the family in the main room, with everyone doing this own thing but, everyone is together and there is something nice about that.

Quoting: BalkanSpyDon't get me wrong, I really like the idea of an portable handheld PC and that the Steam Deck is a big success, but it seems kinda funny that many people prefer to play their games on a medium sized handheld device rather than their main gaming PCs.
I guess it's the novelty factor. :P

As someone who is also really really bad at these types of games, I feel you guys's pain. I've honestly held off on buying this because of the hype around the difficultly. Maybe we're not the target audience.
On the other hand I really liked Hollow Knight and it was stupid hard for me. Part of it was that it was so hard. I felt really accomplished when I finally beat it. I don't always get that feeling when I complete a game nowadays so maybe there is a place for supper hard games like this, just gotta be in the right mood for some frustration.

Quoting: eldakingQuoting: M@GOidI wished they made available a easier difficulty for those games. I managed to finish it twice, but comes a time it gets old dying over and over again just to see the "real ending", so I ditched it. After playing this and Cyber Shadow back to back, I got burned out of games with masochistic levels of difficulty.
The older I get, less patience I have with excessive difficulty in games. Not going to buy new DLCs for this one or any other game of this type from now forward. Life is too short to expand on games like this. Which is too bad, because it is a good game.
Yeah, I feel you. I'm really bad at this kind of game, so when I got it I was dubious if I was going to even get to the "normal" ending. I did, and even beat the game at 1 boss cell, but the true ending is only with 5 boss cells so I didn't even consider it. There are also enemies and game mechanics I didn't even get to see on those lower difficulties.
I am happy enough playing only this much, but still it is stupid that you can't adjust the difficulty other than by stopping early and missing stuff.

Looks interesting. I hope they keep at it for a while. I don't plan on upgrading this anytime soon, but I'd be excited to consider an Intel card ( along with AMD and Nvidia)
Europa Universalis IV Complete Collection available on Humble Bundle

So question. Does this mean the game is less big free than Stellaris or CKII? Follow-up. You guys mentioned multiplayer. How is it for solo play? This is very tempting if I can play it alone while ignoring my friends and family, lol.

Quoting: MisterPaytwick13'3 may be kind of small still. EUIV is fine, but the bundle is needed to get into it now. Classic Paradox.
Tho, I'd like to kind of modulate your words here, Liam:
QuoteParadox has a good history of Linux support too, with this being available as a native Linux port.
Sometimes. For at least 4 years (from the top of my head, I could dig into my message over the Paradox forums and all to be more accurate), EUIV was broken for any cross-play multi for Linux users (they'd desync less than a minute into the game, as the underlaying clock system was broken for that much time)
Paradox support was "meh" to put it mildly here. They do try to support Linux well, and overall it is good. But here? EUIV was broken, yet HoI4 and Stellaris were patched for that very bug at most a year after it first appeared.
