KDE Plasma continues improving to stop you breaking things

I think KDE is improving though. The frequency of breakage is lower than when I first starting using it.

At least for me, the most common breakage is during updates, which would be negated by the Steam Deck's image update plan. So it's not a big deal. Besides all it really needs to do is display Steam, pretty sure all the DE's can do that with no fuss. Everything else is extra, in a sense.

This just occurred to me ...

How do the DE based UI package managers work? Like are they separate from the system package manager, or do they send in generic command into the package manager? Or perhaps share a backend (like the database)?

I will say, it looks very nice. Kinda has the same vibe as your phone app store, which should be familiar to a new user.

I know it's trendy in certian circles to use that language, complete with that spelling and phrasing, but....

Maybe I'm just becoming a grumpy old person.

Quoting: kaimanGuess it's nice if people are motivated to put a few hours in on Saturdays and Sundays, but to me that doesn't feel healthy nor sustainable

From the job posting, remote work:

Given it's an office setting, I'd imagine it's by choice due to family schedules, etc. So, it seems like they are standing by the work-life balance claim.

Besides it's 2022. People work weekends. It's no big deal.

If I had any concern, it would be the lack of pay rates, raises, or benefit increases? How do you know it's worth applying if they don't tell you how much the work is worth? Am I missing it?

I guess I'll be the dumb one and ask. What's the difference between this and Lutris? It seems more generic focused in lieu of gaming, but reading the webpage, I can't figure out how.

And do a lot more, both on and off the computer!

I wonder if a Google image of male pattern baldness would pass?

Even more curious... What picture would I have to show them should I be a woman? A pic of one's Danielle Steele collection🤪?!?!

Quoting: slaapliedjeMy other worry is all the people that will just buy this and install Windows on it... seems to defeat the purpose of the Deck for me; as who wants to deal with another Windows install...
I think very few people will, and the ones that do will have a miserable time; the reviews of other handheld devices that come with Windows have been universal in saying that Windows is terrible for a device like this. But for the ones that do, and get utility out of it, good luck to them; it's their device to do as they wish.

I don't see the os being that big of an issue. Both will autostart with steam, which will run in BPM or something. Both os's can do that with no issue. Ideally, if this thing is meant to be a success, the average user shouldn't even notice or care about the OS, just like every other console.

5 DLC's at the same time?

I guess it's not micro transactions... Or annoying in game messages to buy a bunch of DLC...

Easy Anti-Cheat gets much simpler for Proton and Steam Deck

Good job by Epic and Valve. I'm sure back porting everything wasn't super trivial.

Quoting: elgatilMmm, I was wondering.. Step 2 is just placing a certain file in a certain dir so, couldn't proton take care of that?

EAC being proprietary, I don't think Valve or anyone could distribute it without a license, even a free (as in beer) one...

Also, there are multiple versions, as mentioned in the instructions. A script in Proton works have to detect and download the correct version, and every future version.

I can see that as a potential support nightmare, since a customer would only see a broken game, and likely blame the developer, which would have been taken out of the process, and has no way of fixing it.
