Wow 13 years. I remember when it was Good Old Games and still was in "beta". I'm not sure what my first purchase was, probably Fallout.
Good times.

Is it not in your package manager? That's how I do it on my machines. Might take a bit for the updates to hit your repo, but it's the most convenient, I find.

Epic Games announce full Easy Anti-Cheat support for Linux including Wine & Proton

I don't think it's necessarily Valve's sole benefit. Getting it to work in wine (and therefore proton) is probably more beneficial short term. You get more games working on Linux faster as opposed to trying to port to native (even if EAC now works on native).
I think this benefits every store that sells games with EAC. Valve had the biggest store and stand to gain the most through sales, some may argue they are too big. That's neither her nor there, but think of all the Steam Decks and Linux/proton installs are suddenly working; That can suddenly engage in micro transactions, etc.
I think there are a lot of benefits for everyone. I also share the idea (or hope?) that this might be the first steps to better Linux support from Epic's store.

Quoting: SalvatosNot just for Linux, but seemingly for Valve's sole benefit when it comes to supporting Wine and Proton specifically. What's going on at Epic? Maybe they intend to add Proton to their own launcher and profit from Valve's work...

I guess, that plumbing support for Linux in your games could be considered laying the ground work for expanded support later on. I mean why have a store support an OS that the games can't fully run on?

Quoting: slaapliedjeI first read this as there being a port for EGS to linux and that they were integrating Proton!
But that's what I get for having a tasty margarita for lunch and a steak. Talk about food coma!

Quoting: jensFirst thing I do with gnome is installing plata-noir theme (https://gitlab.com/tista500/plata-theme) and papirus icon theme (https://github.com/PapirusDevelopmentTeam/papirus-icon-theme). After that it is the perfect desktop for me. Small tip: learning the keyboard shortcuts makes life on Gnome way easier and using them imho fits much better into the intended way of working.

Yeah, my knowledge of the Linux audio stack isn't strong enough to try to replace PulseAudio with PipeWire just yet. I'll hopefully be able to try the work around in a few days on my day off.

This seems nice. I'm glad it seems they are emphasizing the need to test out the Linux and wine support. I think it would be bad if devs update thier games only to add breakage or new bugs.
I wonder how many games will get updates? I'd imagine older or smaller titles won't benefit.

Huh... I'll have to try that fix. Pretty much made everything unplayable for me after an hour or two. Thanks for sharing!

Quoting: MohandevirIs Pipewire the solution to the long standing audio degradation issue with PulseAudio, when it comes to in-home streaming from a Linux host?
I have to disable all HDMI audio devices in Pavucontrol of the host computer to prevent that from happening.

Steam not working right on Arch Linux? It's an issue with FreeType and there's a fix
2 September 2021 at 5:58 pm UTC
Edit: Looking at the github again, it appears Valve was shipping steam with libraries that were too out of date. Am I reading that right?

Quoting: slaapliedjeWasn't this in the FreeType2 package, where the break was?My understanding was the opposite, but I must admit I could be wrong. I'm self taught, so I could be reading it the wrong way, but I figure if Valve has to patch Steam to work, it's likely not a Free type bug, right?
