It's a very smart looking case. I'd totally consider this for my next ITX build (if I can fit a full size GPU in there, lol)

Quoting: denyasisI couldn't think of the right words earlier, but I think what bugs me about Itch is that it feels like they are saying to the artists "You won't make much, but We'll pay you with exposure!", which seems like a pretty big no-no in a lot of freelance/artist circles and coupling that the promo of "changing lives" toward the consumer. To me, it feels worse that just a blatant "Gay Pride!!" sale.
To be clear, it's really nothing like that. 99% of bundles on itch.io are run by the developers directly, there's only certain special itch bundles that are from them. And, on itch.io, developers can set to give itch literally nothing. Like this bundle, you can see clearly who has organised it, other than hosting it itch have nothing to do with the creation or push behind it.

Thanks for the clarification! I do see on the page where it's founded by 2 individuals. Although to the casual reader (like me) the separation from itch isn't exactly obvious (for example that you can make/host your own bundle isn't something I knew about).

So yeah, I think it does indeed remove the scammy nature of it and looking at past years it seems like last year they netted about 540USD for each artist. Which I think is pretty good.

I think one could argue the semantics of whether of not those funds are "life-changing" and the implied promises of the text, but it's certain their hearts are in the right place. And who knows, with enough sucess, this could really help out some of those people!!

Quoting: denyasisI'm still all for supporting the community and we definitely need more diverse voices in games, I just wish the marketing around this was a little less... Corporate-y (or perhaps more honest)

I'm willing to cut itch way more slack on "happy pride! buy buy buy!" than I am for Pepsi, Target, airlines, etc, but I do feel some kind of way about it becoming an annual institution.

Perhaps. I must admit I think I'm a bit of the opposite; I think I cut those big stores a little more slack. They seem a little more honest (if not still cold and calculating) in that they are unabashedly doing it as a promo (and some of them actually offer products that can be kinda useful for people in those communities)

I hope that makes some sense

I've only played Hollow Knight (and it was great!), But I don't know if I'd play it again, lol. The frustrating, hard, gameplay certainly makes for a great feeling when you finally beat a section, but fills me with angst if I think about playing again.

That said, opinions on Rain World? It and Hollow Knight seem the most kid-friendly. Might be fun to play it with them.

Quoting: legluondunetIt's important and a real step forward to represent human diversity in video games.

100% agree!!

But, reading the blurb Itch put out (quoted above), feels disingenuous on their part. If they reach their 13,000 USD goal, with 293 creaters.... That's 44USD a paid to each creator (assuming itch takes no cut, before taxes etc).

That's not exactly "life changing."

New Stars is a slimmed down quicker Stellaris-like strategy sim

Quoting: Purple Library GuySo for practical purposes, for me, it's like turn-based only with variable-length turns

That makes sense! The variable length turns reminds me of Aurora 4X, where to can advance a variable about of time (it's always paused in that sense).

I did that with Star ruler 2 (great 4x), although since the battles were also real time on the map, it still be came very hard to manage, lol.b on the other hand, it did open up some really interesting possibilities with the regards to battles on multiple fronts.

Quoting: Purple Library GuyIf I'm thinking of the same thing, I heard good things about Stars! but never got my hands on it.

I believe it is freeware/abandonware. I've played it. It is very much a product of it's time.... Windows 3.1 spreadsheet UI with almost no graphics. I found it hard to get into for that reason. I gravitated toward the older (and simpler) MOO 1 (and then later 2)

QuoteCivilization and Stellaris were originally the main inspirations for the game, but New Stars is it's own game

Interesting... Didn't expect that based on the name. Kinda figured it was inspired by, well, Stars!.

I bounced off of Stellaris pretty hard, I think part of it was the real time aspect, which I've never really been good at, lol (I get too distracted by... Everything)

Quoting: DrMcCoyYes, the Linux client was released in 2003. They originally said it's going to be ready for release in 2002, but that got pushed back. I remember waiting for it

And then the Linux client came and it didn't play any of the videos, because they were Bink files and RADGameTools had no Linux Bink library at that time. The community came up with an LD_PRELOAD hack that hooks into the game and starts mplayer. Of course, you had to re-encode that videos beforehand, using Wine and the RADGameTools toolset. Fun times.

I don't think I even knew about the videos!! (Probably explains a lot). I haven't played it since 2004/5 maybe.

In have to admit, I could never finish NWN or any of the other games. In fact the only aurora/infinity styled rpg I ever finished was Planescape Torment.

I have have and played them all. I would just get... Bored. Which is sad cause these games seem like they would be right up my alley (huge worlds, epic story, complex characters, etc). I just never felt connected to the world.

Nintendo blocked Dolphin emulator release on Steam

Quoting: Mountain ManJoystick drift is actually common across the industry. I know a number of Sony's more expensive controllers have suffered from it, but for whatever reason, they don't get hammered for it like Nintendo. And to be fair, Nintendo continues to offer a free Joy Con repair service, at least here in the US, so while they may not have offered the groveling apology that some people seem to want, they have implemented what I think is a reasonable remedy.

I had a joycon die on me. The switch was pretty new, maybe only a few months. They are very small and feel delicate. But, I went online, sent the affected joycon in for service and had a brand new one back in a few days. No waiting on the phone for support, no complex shipping (I did have to provide my own box), no super complex hoops to jump through to prove it wasn't working and it wasn't magically my fault. They just did it.

Quite frankly, that better customer service than what I experienced from Valve, Logitech, Asus, or Microsoft.

Ironically, #2 would firmly be Microsoft and only because I had to do it over the phone to resolve my issue, so I was on hold a lot.

It is a shame they DCMA'd the emulator though. Alot of their games are really good, I'd love to be able to play them on PC!
