Quoting: GuestQuoting: EikeQuoting: GuestKickstarter just smells like burnt promises and lies. Obviously this depends on what horses you've personally backed in the past but for me I just got sick of lemons, fall short promises or backing something for feature X for them to yank feature X despite making all their goals and more. (feature "X" is often a Linux build)
I'd really watch out for a demo running on Linux. Of course, it's not a guarantee, but it's a very good sign that they are prepared to do it.
Yeah it's true but it's still a reality they could release with a Linux build then just yank it a year later. I'm old and I've seen such a growing trend of negatives in gaming and tech I don't particularly trust anyone anymore...GET OFF MY LAWN~!
With that in mind I'm not crapping on the devs or the game. Just saying I'll wait and see how the launch goes. Frankly when I read isometric it kinda took me back to Kickstarting Pillars of Crapternity. However when I saw the game was actually 3D and looked good I was kinda like well the article title did a good job of thinking this is going to be meh then the trailer was all KABLOW!

Well for me this game was one of the most disappointing purchases i made. It's still ok since they have native linux support, but the game mechanics feel a lot less fun than minecraft. The combat is not too interesting and the grind seems harsher.

I simply thought that it was adorable and was just sad it's not coming to linux. After all it seemed like an indie studio so i had my hopes up.
I really don't see how I harm "linux" by not buying games that cost almost as much as a months rent and provide no support for my platform of choice.

Well it looks like it's going where it was. The studios/publishers that had several products on linux are continuing to release all or most of their stuff on it, and the rest just dont. I think porting in itself a problem, it shouldn't be a problem to plan for multiple pc platforms at the same time. They did and do it for Mac, and thats a more shifting target if anything.

Except it's always certain types that make a stink about certain topics. Even though the site has nothing to do with it, you almost surely encounter right wing trolls on every article even remotely connected to the fake outrage they spread. Some of us are living in fascist countries and it's really annoying to encounter it on GoL.
I apologize to the mods if they have to moderate me again because of this, but it is even more annoying on this site, because it's well moderated and the users are generally more tame than the average "gaming" forums or phoronix.

Quoting: 14Quoting: tuubiI quite disagree. That is as close to saying "get out if you disagree; you must go elsewhere and either speak in an echo chamber or a forum where only certain types of people congregate," yet anyone who supports the topic is allowed a voice EVERYWHERE it is mentioned.Quoting: 14I am against the cultural trend of pom poms for everything, and if you are against something, be silent. That is dangerous. There's nothing dangerous about a Linux gaming site disallowing inflammatory, non-gaming related topics of discussion, if only to keep the community welcoming and inclusive. No need for the drama. Surely we can agree that you're not owed a platform and/or an audience whenever and wherever you decide to voice an opinion.
If you feel like your cause is just and important, by all means, protest and discuss to your heart's content, but please find a more suitable venue for it. Maybe one of the gazillion political discussion platforms out there, or your local pub.
If controversial topics cannot allow simple opposing opinions, then I say comments should not be allowed on those publications.
Nothing I have said can be considered inflammatory and I never said that I support emotionally heated arguments. Please don't stretch what I said beyond what I actually said.

Quoting: TherinSQuoting: dvdConservatives don't care about children (not just in the USA but everywhere), they just want control of womens bodies. It's also a ridiculous thing to consider the unborn thing a baby and totally disregard a pregnant womans needs or feelings over it. It's not a casual thing women do between lunch and dinner. Where it's legalised there are no abortion factories either, the women have to talk to their doctors and at least one psychologist.
That's about a B.S. argument if I ever heard one. Conservatives want to CONSERVE LIFE. The whole point is to PROTECT children, born and unborn. The only ones determined to show they do not care about children are the groups eager to murder them in the womb. Its big business for them and a political ploy, and dehumanizes the sanctity of life itself.
<s>
I've never been to an abortion before but I get the feeling that Planned Parenthood and the ilk have a conversation that goes like this:
Mother-to-be: I wanna get rid of my baby.
Nurse or doctor: Are you sure?
Mtb: Yes
NoD: Are you of sound mind?
Mtb: Yup
NoD: Ok hop up on the table.....
Maybe there is more concern in other countries, but that organization and the whole movement supporting them is determined to make killing babies akin to removing a wart. It's a life at conception, but each state gets to set its own murder laws now, so that should make some Liberal states very happy.

Quoting: dvdI think it's also quite simplistic view of freedom (political or otherwise) to say that whatever you will should happen. There are a lot of heinous things lots of people would vote for given the freedom.
Fortunately, heinous things are almost never voted into law because people KNOW they are heinous. Gimme some examples of this happening in recent history (preferably in the USA, since that's where this whole flap is happening).
Quoting: dvdOf course fascists around the globe make gains by disregarding the human sciences as useless, and give false natural explanations to stuff (like the old school racists). They also commonly target womens rights.
Fascists also blame everyone else for failures and rally the people with "Its THESE people that are the problem, they have to go!" That's how one of the most fascist governments in world history expanded its power in the late 1930s. Seems like there is alot of blame getting thrown around currently but most reasonable adults are wising up.

But hopefully at least the western world is beyond that. (oh god i hate the term western world)

Quoting: TherinSWith the decision, Democracy in the USA is shown to be stepping in the correct direction! Removing the choice from the people is something governments, at a national level, have done for thousands (?) of years. Now the choice of forging our own future on this matter has been rightfully returned to individual states where the citizens get to decide for themselves how they wish to be governed. This bundle SHOULD be raising money promoting the freedom to choose our own paths, instead of going to organizations/efforts that wish to strip away the rights of the people to Democratically vote for their own rulers who represent THEM.
If a bundle comes along that supports the rights of citizens to make their voices heard in the democratically way our founders intended, then it will be a bundle worth supporting.

Quoting: denyasisQuoting: NociferA) There is a slight difference between restructuring and open-sourcing an already existing code base, and developing something as open source from the ground up
I'm no dev, and maybe I'm fundamentally not understanding the purpose of OSI and similar licenses, but I thought if you take an existing OSI licensed code base, added/changed/modified it, that your finished product would still need to be Open Source, right?
Yeah, Valve could have written some closed source code for proton, but given the number of open source projects they rely on, how much could the realistically make closed? The installer script maybe?
