Quoting: furaxhornyxNo offense, but I have tried Ubuntu Studio, and it is nowhere near a good out-of-the-box experience... In fact that's probably one of the worst distro I tried, and if I didn't have tried others before (and thus know better about the Linux experience), I would probably have migrated to Windows 10 by now...
I have spent quite a lot of time trying to figure out how to tweak Jack and pulseaudio with Cadence, and even now, I am not fully satisfied with this "solution", which is more of a "workaround".
I wish there was a CoreAudio equivalent in Linux (to be fair, I wish it would have been the case in Windows, too). Maybe with Pipewire ?

When did you last try? I ask because Jason Evanghelo thought the same back in 2019, but I think was quite positive about later versions? They lost a lot of developers between 2016 and 2018, which led to some serious stagnation.

As for CoreAudio, I have a musician friend who won't try Linux because of that very lack. Again, Evanghelo has found alternatives, but I think some of these professional niches are where Linux does hurt for the official packages associated with - Adobe stuff, AutoCAD, CoreAudio, and so on. At least Blender is leading the pack. And yeah, hopefully Pipewire continues to mature and becomes the default audio solution.

It depends a lot on the profession, in some the software runs just as well or better since the best software is free, but you can still run the blobs as well.

Valve corrects the RAM specs for the Steam Deck, games should run nicely from SD Card

400$? That's about what my desktop cost, including the monitor. Guess it's gonna be a gadget for people who either use this as primary gaming device or can already afford a pricy desktop. Well i might get one if i ever win the lottery.

Making drivers for other architectures is a piece of cake?
You're serious?

I didn't say that. It's pretty ridiculous: these are companies that rake in revenues by the billions, and they act like they just invented the printing press, when in reality all this is just them finally giving a damn about other architectures. It's not like 10-20 years ago they didn't have people to write the exact same driver for any architecture they wanted to.

Dead Cells and CS:GO, finally made it past 3-cell. The new update made the game easier i think (at least for my playstyle). Now i'm back to using my dead time farming cells for the final forge upgrade and some blueprints i'm missing.

Hints appear of Valve making a handheld Steam "SteamPal" Neptune console
25 May 2021 at 10:26 am UTC

I for one would be interested in such a thing if it was reasonably priced and had a nice battery life. On the other hand if it's 'play Cyberpunk 2077' on a handheld it's probably not for me, but i'd like to play Dead Cells and the like on the go.

It would be also cool if they kept it open like SteamOS (with a debian based system perhaps) so you could install Retroarch etc. on it or use it as a pdf reader.

Wolfire Games filed a lawsuit against Valve over abuse of their market position

It's not like Valve is making corrupt deals with governements and hardware manufacturers trying its hardest to make their software the only one that runs on machines. (in public and private institutions) Oh hey that's windows!

I don't think this is anything new, they can't expect Steam to be the only vehicle for their games. Some *other* stores push exclusivity and lock-ins way harder. And those are supposed to be better? Come on...

Dark Envoy is a non-linear sci-fantasy RPG coming in 2022 and it's looking good

Always nice to hear that another RPG gets released natively on linux. I mostly play games of this kind nowadays, and it's a huge pain when you have to run them through wine. Native release makes it a lot more likely that i buy it outside of a sale.

I'm only using signal now as a skype alternative, even managed to get some family members using it. If you only use such software for group voice chat, there is also mumble, and a myriad of other open technologies that can fit your needs.
