Intel Haswell now supports OpenGL 4.5 with Mesa-git on Linux

Quoting: Purple Library GuyDota2?! I have a laptop with Intel graphics and I play games on it fine . . . specifically, turn-based games, where frame rate doesn't matter a whole ton. But high end real-time games, particularly ones pitting you against other people and their machines, seem to be exactly the most masochistic choice for Intel gaming.
Or was that a joke that just swished over my head?

Quoting: CreakDota 2 is completely playable at 30 fps (unless you're a 4K+ MMR player). You'll have to improve a lot of your errors before the FPS becomes a problem for you.

That being said, I'm surprised to hear that Intel GPUs can achieve 30 fps on Dota... The last Intel benchmark from Phoronix wasn't very good.

Well, according to my research once I lower the details, getting stable fluent FPS should not be a problem :)

Quoting: liamdaweIntel HD/Iris graphics aren't exactly the best for gaming, but it's good to know that people stuck with the integrated graphics at least get the chance to try more out.
This man would disagree: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCQkd05iAYed2-LOmhjzDG6g

And don't say that! I am going to buy a laptop with Intel graphics and play a lot of DOTA2 on it!

Looks like FPS game 'Squad' might be coming to Linux soon

As an Insurgency veteran I'd REALLY like to play it. For now I've heard there is a non-portable middleware standing in a way, so I don't think it's coming "soon". Still, I'm glad they are thinking about Linux version seriously :)

Ignition, another classic game re-released on GOG with Linux support
10 January 2017 at 9:41 pm UTC

Quoting: LiamGOG provided me with a copy to try out, but sadly it doesn't seem to run. This is a first from GOG classic games that hasn't run and I have reached out to them to see what's up.

It loads DOSBox, then my screen goes black as DOSBox tries to run and then it dumps me back into the desktop in a really low resolution.
It looks like the game crashes on some machines when using 64 bit DOSBox. The workaround is to use the 32 bit DOSBox:

1. Go to the 'dosbox' subfolder in the game installation folder and edit the 'dosbox' script
2. Change the line 4 that says declare -r ARCH=`uname -m` to declare -r ARCH="i686"
3. Then you can run the game like usual using the 'start.sh' script or the shortcut on your desktop / in your menu.
4. You need 32 bit DOSBox dependencies in order to use it, on Debian/Ubuntu that will be the following packages (and the deps that they will pull from repo):
libasound2:i386 libc6:i386 libgcc1:i386 libpng12-0:i386 libsdl-net1.2:i386 libsdl-sound1.2:i386 libsdl1.2debian :i386 libstdc++6:i386 libx11-6:i386 zlib1g:i386

I believe the fix from GOG will roll out shortly ;)

Dude, who cares.

Although the sample is still pretty small, I'm very glad this survey exists and provides quite a lot of useful information!
