King Arthur's Gold Live On Steam For Linux
8 November 2013 at 1:29 pm UTC

Played this game much when it was in alpha - and it was awesome these days. Current game version was rewritten from the scratch, so it is much different than alpha - the gameplay pace changed much, however the game gained plenty of new content.

Don't mistake current full version (available on Steam) for the free version (KAG Classic), also available on their website and on Desura.

GOG.com Don't Plan On Introducing Linux Support In The Foreseeable Future UPDATED
6 September 2013 at 7:59 am UTC

I simply cannot understand, what is the big deal - to bundle DOSBox with some libraries (which is they actually are doing right now on Windows, right?), alternatively bundle just a few libraries. Humble installers from Ryan Gordon somehow achieved it. They have incredible potential, because they could even bundle specific custom Wine releases for big amount of games that are known to work rated as 'platinum' in Wine.

And yes, even if they decided to support only Ubuntu LTS, thats all fine as well. Valve somehow can do it, and rest of Linux distros simply adapted.

I assume, they just don't understand Linux and they are not really into it. Remember that Liam talked with PR representatives. They won't simply say 'we dont give a shit about your platform, it wont bring us enough benefit'. They have to put it nicely. With PR bullshit like we've read.

Seriously, I guess it will be better to focus on giving money to those who are willing to support us (as stated, Steam, Desura, ShinyLoot, Gameolith) and deal with no official support from GOG (you can still run their games in DOSBox and Wine tho if you really want to).

Santa Ragione makes intriguing games. Weird that his previous game, Fotonica did not make it to Steam (yet). You can still greenlight it :)

Porting Games Over To Linux Using Wine
5 September 2013 at 10:13 am UTC

Quoting: SpeedsterI used to have a Cedega subscription back when Transgaming was trying to survive on end-user subscribers more than "porting" fees from the development side -- what recent news about Transgaming are you looking forward to?
Quoting: liamdaweI don't see Cider being exciting since it's essentially a wine wrapper, Cider is basically Cedega marketed to companies, so it's essentially Wine deep down = not native at all.
Well, my point was, if you'd like to see games like those from this list: http://transgaming.com/cider/games - for example Prince of Persia, The Sims, Need for Speed franchises officially released on Linux, this would be the very only way for now. It took some time unless such publisher as Aspyr appeared and started porting games natively on Mac.

EDIT:

Here's a short look on Mac gaming situation. Can we compare Linux to this?

Porting Games Over To Linux Using Wine
4 September 2013 at 12:30 pm UTC

Quoting: liamdaweI do find it odd that Wine itself has not made a front-end like PlayOnLinux, then again it would destroy a lot of Crossover's business I guess.
Well Wine provides just the technology. It is not really a final product :>

Porting Games Over To Linux Using Wine

A really good editorial. I've expressed my thoughts on the subject few times but I will do that one more time.

Wine ports are a good solution under one condition - they have to work flawlessly. I am actually looking forward to Transgaming to join up, authors of officially released Cider ports (Wine-like technology to bring games to Mac) and developers of not really popular Cedega. We all know that CodeWeavers ports were not perfect (ohh Limbo). But if such huge company as EA could release The Sims or Assasin's Creed on Mac with Transgaming technology, why wouldn't this happen to Linux?

On the other hand, just take a look at the best Wine frontend I know: PlayOnLinux. By design it takes away the problem that Liam mentioned, problem of losing compatibility along with Wine updates - you choose the specific version of Wine for the game, the one which is known to work perfectly (thanks to that I was able to run some old games that didn't want to work with newest versions of Wine).

Football Manager 2014 is ready for pre-orders and on Linux
15 August 2013 at 1:51 pm UTC

Gonna love it! I played series when it was Championship Manager many years ago. It is hilariously complex manager when each player is described by tens if not hundreds of statistics and you have to deal with plenty both sport- and non-sport related issues.

Wait... 50 euros... I'll wait till some Christmas/Summer sale or sth...

Unepic RPG game will head to Linux!
15 June 2013 at 7:59 am UTC

Quoting: s_d(...)
Anyway, Unepic looks like a pretty cool, and very weird, Castlevania-ish RPG w/roguelike elements.  I've heard it's pretty funny, too, but that the humour is "quirky" (or something?).
I recommend it heartily to anyone. I finished the demo version on Wine (works great!) and absolutely loved it!

Unepic RPG game will head to Linux!
15 June 2013 at 7:57 am UTC

Quoting: HyeronWelp, the only problem is... "A friend" of theirs has been "going to port" the game to Linux (as stated on their page and in this article) for AGES now (IIRC over a year). So I wouldn't hold my breath until I see actual proof.

(don't get me wrong, I'd love to see it happen. I just DON'T see it happening any time soon or late)

FINAL EDIT: Close enough. August the 3rd, 2012 according to the Wayback Machine.
Hmm, I thought it was much more. In November 2012 I exchanged few emails with Fran (Unepic developer) about the Linux port. It was like:

Hello there.

Some time passed since information that Unepic is gonna be ported to Linux got spread. That info is still present in Unepic website. So... How is the works progress? Is Unepic on Linux gonna happen anytime soon?

Best regards,

Hello,

You are right, I have to update news about Linux.
I the guy that was supposed to port the game did not port it due to lack of time. I have recently contacted another one who could do it, but it asking some money. Since the game did not sell enought, I can't afford this cost but today Steam will say who are the next 10 games to be selected, Unepic is #9 in GreenLIght. If Unepic is selected I will be capable to deal with him and have the game ported.

I must publish this. Will do next monday.

So the facts are: he still cares about porting Unepic and did not change his mind about that. From what we see, Greenlight was the priority and perhaps since the game got it the port will come in next weeks after the game will be released - and not only as Steam Early Access, but full featured version. However, the game won't go outside Early Access until they will finish multiplayer mode (currently in beta).

We are really looking forward for Linux release!

Well, the thing is, [Monster Minis Extreme Off-Road](http://www.desura.com/games/monster-minis-extreme-off-road) only announced its planned (and worked on) Linux support, but no measurable effects so far...
