Unepic RPG game will head to Linux!

Quoting: s_d(...)I recommend it heartily to anyone. I finished the demo version on Wine (works great!) and absolutely loved it!
Anyway, Unepic looks like a pretty cool, and very weird, Castlevania-ish RPG w/roguelike elements. I've heard it's pretty funny, too, but that the humour is "quirky" (or something?).

So the facts are: he still cares about porting Unepic and did not change his mind about that. From what we see, Greenlight was the priority and perhaps since the game got it the port will come in next weeks after the game will be released - and not only as Steam Early Access, but full featured version. However, the game won't go outside Early Access until they will finish multiplayer mode (currently in beta).
We are really looking forward for Linux release!

Quoting: HyeronWelp, the only problem is... "A friend" of theirs has been "going to port" the game to Linux (as stated on their page and in this article) for AGES now (IIRC over a year). So I wouldn't hold my breath until I see actual proof.Hmm, I thought it was much more. In November 2012 I exchanged few emails with Fran (Unepic developer) about the Linux port. It was like:
(don't get me wrong, I'd love to see it happen. I just DON'T see it happening any time soon or late)
FINAL EDIT: Close enough. August the 3rd, 2012 according to the Wayback Machine.

Hello there.
Some time passed since information that Unepic is gonna be ported to Linux got spread. That info is still present in Unepic website. So... How is the works progress? Is Unepic on Linux gonna happen anytime soon?
Best regards,

Hello,
You are right, I have to update news about Linux.
I the guy that was supposed to port the game did not port it due to lack of time. I have recently contacted another one who could do it, but it asking some money. Since the game did not sell enought, I can't afford this cost but today Steam will say who are the next 10 games to be selected, Unepic is #9 in GreenLIght. If Unepic is selected I will be capable to deal with him and have the game ported.
I must publish this. Will do next monday.

From one side, this is a really good idea. Why? Look at the Mac - on this market, huge companies use Cider (utility from TransGaming which is basically something like CrossOver/Wine) to release official game ports. Companies like EA, Ubisoft, Activision and Bioware! Why wouldn't this work in case of Wine? This is also how PlayOnLinux works - it uses precise Wine version with precise settings, ensuring functioning on any Linux machine.
The failure with Limbo in Humble Indie Bundle V occured most likely just because they didn't beta-test the port properly before.
There are of course many drawbacks of this solution as well. Like, most of all, making game developers ignoring Linux as an independent platform. And, of course, the risk of Microsoft sueing CodeWeavers (CrossOver/Wine developers) for abusing on of their patents.
EDIT:
Oh, and here is the list of Cider-powered games: http://transgaming.com/cider/games

Ya liamdawe but at least you can download all games you purchased from the one place, when you create an account in the Store.
However I agree that separate website just for store would be an awesome idea. Did you ask Humble Team for that?
