I don't know about you but the only time I ever see my desktop is when I first boot. That's a weird complaint to have.
I think that getting rid of desktop icons was one of the biggest innovations of GNOME 3. Finding stuff on the desktop is slower than any other method, be it start menus, search, or simply a file manager. To find stuff on the desktop you have to literally move whatever you are doing out of the way, and break your flow. It is only realistically useful for the first few seconds after you have logged in, and before you launched your first application that obscures the view of the desktop.
In my opinion a cramped desktop screen reflects people's untidiness; it resembles their real desks and/or their inability to give structure to the files on their drive(s). That's okay for me, but in this case GNOME may not be the right choice.

Quoting: Alm888Sadly, what I need is a good lightweight compact and *portable* 10" netbook as my current "Samsung N308" has become really outdated.
And as for a "Beast of a PC", my current desktop serves me well, thank you very much.
Sadly there are only detachables left in the 10" category. I once had a Dell Netbook, even switched the HDD with an SSD and upgraded its RAM to 2 GiB. But the CPU (Atom N450) was just too slow even for web browsing (although the trend to responsive web design effected readability enormously on the 1024x600 display).

I bought a refurbished Thinkpad A285 some time ago. It's a bit wider and longer but only half as thick and weighs nearly the same, so portability is okay for me. And is has more than enough oomph.

Nope. But I still love this game (in Singleplayer mode) for its flow and its style. I don't regret the 166 h spent on it.

Quoting: jordicomaAnyone knows if this company sells computers to Europe (with the power supply and an non us keyboard layout)?
I do not need a laptop now, but I would consider it for the next one.
You can buy a nearly identical (but differently branded) variant at tuxedocomputers.com. I guess it comes without the open firmware though. Maybe you can force-install it.

Quoting: Jewgeni Filippowitsch IwanowskiI've also been waiting for it and will buy it as soon as it's available.

Maybe I'm too old to be needing the greatest and newest games. I appreciate what's already there and as I don't spend that much time gaming anymore I might never fully finish my (rather medium sized) backlog. That's okay for me as long as once in a while there are some gems like this one released to brighten up the day.

As I don't have much time for playing anymore, I can also still satisfy my gaming needs with native ports (and whitelisted Proton games). For the same reason, I'm keeping my backlog of bought games small (half a dozen games or so). But the reason for writing...: How many games is "rather medium sized"? :-D
My "medium sized backlog" counts circa 15 titles, but perhaps I'll seriously play only half of them. I don't want to urge myself playing games just because I own a copy (= have a license...). By getting older that became more and more okay with me.

Quoting: LinasI really don't get why people spend so much energy supporting a platform that is so anti-gaming like macOS.
Many Windows users are probably thinking the same thing about Linux.
Although the reason for that might be pure ignorance and/or arrogance. If you just mention Linux some "gamers" just turn away.

I was once assassinated for creating a socialist utopia bare of any problems but rich in personal freedom and culture. The right wing opposition had rather had a worse life instead. Walls are raised in people's minds first...

I'm curious what the new version has to offer and if that justifies a purchase.

Quoting: g000hSkyrim Special Edition - A little more testing. It works, but not the NPC audio (which is quite important to enjoy the game).
I have the same issue, but music doesn't work either. Maybe I'm missing some obscure package...

Did you know that there's a native version of Prey awaiting you, done by Ryan Gordon? Works splendid, even on Intel IGPs.
