Hybrid gaming controller MoveMaster has a new website, shipping to the UK now available and 10% off

I have been using Movemaster RSG for almost a year now and I am quite satisfied with the device.

My use case is an alternative to "throttle stick", although it can reliably replace most of the basic shooters.
It is especially handy in games where your torso/hull is decoupled from turret/cockpit (e.g. Mechwarrior, Warthunder, Descent/Overload, etc). Note, the device is not analog, so it cannot fully replace joypad/joystick if that is your use case.
I do not play competitive games, so I can not argue about the performance. Maybe there is a slight advantage, but probably not.
But there is an advantage, device is more comfortable for the hand compared to a classic keyboard. The heights for palm and positions of finger buttons are fully customisable, so you can configure it to your hand.

There is a software configuration manager (AppImage) and you can save your presets for specific games. It works.

However, there are some downsides (YMMWV). You can struggle with games where you have to press complex combinations (shift+alt+numbers), since there are 4+4 buttons for your main fingers and 1+1 button for your index finger. You may need to rebind everything, so that you can actually reach the buttons.
You will also struggle if you need more advanced keysets with more than 10 keybinds, or when you need access to more than 4 weapons/quickslots (1,2,3,4).

Unfortunately the installation was not hassle-free. I had to process couple of commands (usermod [...] dialout) in the terminal, otherwise device was not recognised. I still have to do it for every OS update/reinstall and firmware update.

Overall, expensive, niche, but very handy device.

Quoting: Lord_PhoenixI've been trying various tricks over last month, but I can't make it work in my Fedora setup. :( Looks amazing thought.
Me too. I am unable to start the BYAR on my Fedora 33 setup.

it is giving me lots of errors:

Problem with the SSL CA cert (path? access rights?)
Error in curl Problem with the SSL CA cert (path? access rights?) (error setting certificate verify locations:
  CAfile: /etc/ssl/certs/ca-certificates.crt
  CApath: /etc/ssl/certs)

Perhaps again the infamous libcurl vs libcurl-gnutls problem.

I am really not looking forward to the times that label "sweet-spot mainstream graphic card" at 700 $, give or take a hundred.

What play button have you been clicking on lately?

Deep Rock Galactic
1-4 coop Dwarf mining and shooting madness.
Absolutely lovely game for solo, duo and multi play.

It runs in Proton, but I haven't encountered any problems, except for the universal micrphone not working in Linux and integration with Discord doesn't work. Everything else is just pure awesome.

Some underappreciated gems going cheaper in the current sales, ends tomorrow

In the category of "under appreciated or over looked games", I would definitely add Overload - a successor to Descent series from 90's, a very niche genre.
Good game and good Linux port, it was surprisingly a GOTY for me.

Total War: WARHAMMER II released for Linux, port from Feral Interactive
21 November 2018 at 6:22 pm UTC

I am slightly confused. I played a lot of TW:Warhammer I on my machine without problems, although AMD cars are not supported at all (based on Steam Store sys.requirement page).

My machine is AMD R7 260X (2nd Gen) 2 GB, and MESA 18.2.4 (Fedora 29)

TW:Warhammer II requires AMD GPU's - Mesa 18.1.5 or better, but it also states it needs 2GB AMD R9 285 (GCN 3rd Gen) or better.

After starting the game/launcher, I get an error message, that my system is incapable of Vulkan rendering on current hardware. Is that because of only 2nd Gen Radeon graphic card, or should I be installing additional packages?

EDIT:
Command vulkaninfo states:

EDIT2:
According to Google, I should enable CIK support in the kernel, since currently it is using radeon instead of amdgpu:

If you have trouble with keyboard input in some Unity games, there is a workaround (updated)
23 August 2018 at 2:49 pm UTC

This is not limited to Unity games, it affects other games like Warthunder (Steam version), unless you start the launcher/game with XMODIFIERS='' steam  or directly.

You can also circumvent the issue by selecting other input source in GNOME3. GNOME Tweaks->Keyboard&Mouse->Show Extended Input Source ; then switch from IBUS to something else.

What are you playing this weekend and what do you think about it?

For couple of weeks, I've been indulging myself by playing Overload.
It is modern successor to Descent games from the 90', in Unity engine and Linux native on GOG and Steam.

The start was a bit underwhelming, and old-school principle of six-degrees of freedom shooting in mining shafts in a modern engine. But once you re-learn the basic movement system, weapons and enemies, the game becomes really fun. The difficulty spikes are enough to keep you on your toes every level, weapons can be upgraded, there are some new enemies and the gauntlets/boss fights are excellent.

Performance is decent, not the best, graphics are good.
