Well see, effectively this is what they’re doing. Your client will still be yours and playable on the systems it was designed for, but you won’t be able to connect to their matchmaking servers because your version won’t match theirs. And so, ironically, it’s precisely because they won’t be patching your OS’s version anymore that you won’t be able to connect.

Do you seriously think they would have kept supporting Linux if not for the existence of a potential workaround? They don’t care either way, their decision is made, they just suggest it to alleviate the frustration.

I miss the old days.
Game was released (maybe had a patch later), focus was single player , you had LAN and could play with private servers.
Now games are online , focus is multiplayer and publishers decide how the game is played and it is on their whim what will happen next.

I think the last patch added Steam Remote Play together support, so you will still be able to play with friends against bots. Not as fun as online multiplayer, but something. In March RL on Linux will end up in the same situation as on PS4 - you only have local single and multiplayer. On PS4 you'd have to pay for a PS subscription to play multiplayer, but I don't see people doing that.

Must be plenty of people doing it because I encounter nearly as many people from PSN in my online matches as from PC.

And I wouldn't really count on Remote Play Together for something as fast and precise as Rocket League. Just trying it with Ultimate Chicken Horse, the guest players were at a very obvious disadvantage.

Was about to say the same. I wouldn’t personally vote for them in light of today’s news, but they did support Linux throughout 2019. And they care enough to give advance notice, at least.

And there it is, as expected. I would have bought a few DLCs if this hadn’t been so predictable. Let’s see how it goes with Proton.

That, and if Sony decides to open up more and release more games on PC, it would be excellent for Feral to build a relationship with them early! After all, I can’t imagine Sony would be opposed to keeping some of the PC sales away from Microsoft’s ecosystem :)

And I’m with you there, I’ve already beaten the game twice on a borrowed console and I’ll still gladly pay full price to have it on PC the moment it comes out. I didn’t play the DLC, so that’s a good excuse for a fresh playthrough :D
