You might want to keep an eye on 'Silence', the new point & click adventure from Daedalic Entertainment

They reused Sadwick and Spot from The Whispered World? Is there officially a connection between the two or did they just feel like giving them a big cameo because (TWW spoiler)
Spoiler, click me
it's also an imaginary world
?

I'll probably pass on this one, but it's good to see Daedalic keep making their games available on Linux.

Quoting: LinasSometimes I really wish I would enjoy point and click games more. They tend to have amazing art and interesting stories. However the mechanics of solving arbitrary puzzles, and not having direct control over the character and being limited to certain predefined actions really puts me off. :(
I suppose you could look for Let's Plays on YouTube so you'd get to enjoy the visuals and story and maybe the lack of control wouldn't put you off as much if you're in the mindset of watching a "movie." I imagine you've already considered that, though. Of course, it could still get annoying if the person playing takes too long to figure things out or commentates the playthrough.

Tyranny, the massive new RPG from Obsidian Entertainment releases today day-1 on Linux, our review

Quoting: BTREI'm not sure where people are getting that the game forces you to commit 'evil' acts from this review. I thought we emphasized that there's a lot of freedom of choice in the game as shown by the contrast between my experience and Liam's.
What I got from it was mostly that you can choose whom to side with and how violently versus diplomatically you can assert yourself. I didn't catch any indication of choices leaning toward a strictly benevolent personality (Liam's character saved an old man in the intro, but he said it was to recruit him into his party, so it could be more self-serving than benevolent).

Quoting: BTREHell, even Kyros is less of a Skeletor/Palpatine/evil generic antagonist and more of a real world leader like many a Roman emperor during the height of the empire - someone who did great things, brought order and stability but also passed harsh laws and was at times callous about the lives of the masses, especially those who rebelled.
Now that's something I was very much hoping to hear. One question though, is Kyros a man or a woman? The first paragraph left me confused.

GOG Connect has new games for you to grab from Steam for free if you already own them

Thanks for the heads up. Having limited periods where you can redeem games makes the whole concept rather impractical.

I don't think a pyramid scheme means what you think it means.

Not something I would get myself since I'm not big on portable gaming, but it's always nice to see more options enter the Linux gaming space. It would be nice, though, if they maintained their own catalog of games the device will actually be able to run.

Quoting: GuestI'd be interested in the possibility to use Steam in-home streaming with this. Is that working on Linux yet (as a host)? That would be pretty cool.
Yes, sometimes I lie on the couch and stream games from my Linux desktop on my Linux laptop.

Tyranny, the new RPG from Obsidian, gets a release date and will have day-1 Linux support [Updated]

Quoting: GuestExpansions are capable of being sequels, they have that much content, they are like the original game times two.
All I'm saying is that DLC has that same potential since everything that isn't the core game is marketed as DLC nowadays. Even the new Baldur's Gate title could have been sold as DLC for either BG1 or BG2 since it uses the same engine and game saves and expands on their storyline. Calling it that and linking its purchase to either game (who would play episode 1.5 of anything without playing the first anyway?) wouldn't have changed its nature and made it terrible business practice, would it?

Quoting: SalvatosI have yet to even start Pillars of Eternity, so on the wishlist it goes for now. I do like the "evil has already won" approach, it's a theme I've been curious about for a while. I just hope the overlord isn't a two-dimensional "conquer the world because I can" villain.
It's not like those are so unrealistic. Up until recently "conquer everyone I can" was more or less an accepted principle of statecraft--not the only possible approach, but a common and perfectly respectable one. When we look at historical kings, Roman emperors and so on are we very often measure them by the "Did he expand the country/empire's territory? Yes? Then he was good!" yardstick.
And to this day it has its adherents--Dick Cheney, for instance.
You know, I actually considered that as I was typing that comment. The problem is that it's kind of an easy default that gets boring quickly. More importantly, I had more in mind than just expansionism. If the guy's leading a nation to world domination, that's fair game. But would you call that "evil has won"? At a glance, it sounds more like your stereotypical "evil overlord raises an army of nobodies/monsters/undead and goes on a power trip for the sake of his own ego" and that's what I'm wary of. Not making assumptions, but it's something I'll want to look into when reviews come out.

The experience ought to be quite different based on whether we're part of some nation who has conquered another and is reinstating order, or some bad evil dude working for a badder evil dude with the sole purpose of making people miserable. I expect the game falls somewhere between the two.

Quoting: GuestI want the complete game up front, otherwise it should be in early access or release an expansion later on. I'm talking an actual "expansion", too. I like my games DLC-free like in the good ol' days, otherwise I'm waiting! :D
There's DLC that's pretty useless and/or crappy, but I feel that no one uses the term "expansion" anymore, because expansions are now sold as downloadable content... just like the base games, really. In this context, hating on DLC but welcoming expansions seems contradictory to me. All DLC expands a game in some way, and the *expansions* we grew up with are now marketed as DLC. It's a rather poor choice of words for today's market, but it's easy to forget and warp the meaning behind an acronym. You could call them add-ons, expansions, extras, kits... they're all downloadable anyway.

That said, I certainly agree that cutting a game down into DLCs to inflate the price of the complete, base experience is crap. But waiting for consolidated editions as you propose solves that problem nicely, especially if you also wait for a sale. At the end of the day (or year :)) you get more content for whatever price you're looking to pay.

Nah, that's the "M" of "mille," thousand. Think of mille-feuille, "thousand layers."
Acceptable answer, but then it should be the same for $487K.
