Finally I can start using "You have a Mac build but not a Linux build even though it has a larger market share" as an argument to convince devs to support Linux
Nearly 40% of Linux gamers on Steam are on Steam Deck

Not in my experience. I had it on two different desktops one week apart just last spring and I've had it on my laptop as well.

Quoting: blindcoderI _want_ to pick one up, but it's _still_ a lot of money for a device I don't really _need_.Same, I wish I hadn't gotten an SSD for my aging laptop so I could fool myself into considering a Deck as replacement for it. Turns out the old thing can still last me a while :P There's always the next gen I guess!

I only had time to try three demos, but Land Above Sea Below was my favorite by far and a very happy find though it didn't show up in the most popular. A very beautiful "atmospheric building strategy and puzzle game where you have to build your island from tiles in order to raise its height as much as possible, to avoid it getting flooded by the constantly rising sea level." I like how you have limited turns forcing you to think and plan your moves carefully before the tide engulfs your island, but there is no real-life time limit forcing you into rash decisions (unlike another turn-based combat game I tried). Very, very cozy game and one I could see myself returning to to unwind at the end of a long day even though I normally prefer story-based games.

Quoting: miroWhat the actual fuq? It’s not designed to kill people, it’s designed to repel invaders.
Is this for real? You do know that this is designed to kill people, not in a cs-fashion but for real. And all with the currently f'ed up narrative and politics, you are cracking jokes with it.
I can not believe this, what a shame.
Ubisoft hiring Linux developer talent for XDefiant

Sure, "our game’s services running on Linux" could have been server stuff, and "improving the Snowdrop engine’s support for Linux" could have just been making the devs' tools work better on Linux machines, regardless of the playable platform. But "Linux is an extremely stable and performance-oriented OS, and you’ll be able to make XDefiant really shine there" seems very unambiguous about running the actual game on Linux.
To me, it even sounds like they want to make it run especially well on Linux (i.e. compared to Windows and/or consoles). It could be that they want to push it hard on Steam Deck. Or maybe they're aiming for optimal performance on cloud platforms (Amazon was hiring Proton/Wine devs back in 2021 for Luna, right?).

Trivia: The game is made by Simon "Gee" Giraudot, a comic book artist frequently featured by Framasoft, a French FOSS NGO (and probably others) :)

I remember having to fake Korean social security numbers to sign up for Korean MMOs back in the day. I wonder how long we have left until we need our identities verified to join online games because of bots and AI.
