As someone who develops ancillary tools and documentation for a certain platform and distributes everything for free, let me also give the usual reminder that it’s not just (or at all) about trying to make living wages out of donations. Especially on small, single-person projects, just receiving a 2$ tip with a "thank you" once in a while is a great motivator that keeps the "is anyone even using this?" demon at bay.

Similar feeling here. No idea what’s going on in that trailer other than cards being flipped.

I like how the reviews say you can't even save your progress. I guess even for free it's not worth it

Valve just gave away another bunch of Steam Decks so check your email

I missed Milf Hunter’s win, but I did see one winner who had his Twitch URL as his username and I went to check it out of curiosity. He wasn’t even streaming but his chat was flooded for a long time with all kinds of lulz, obscenity, link spam and ASCII porn. Good for him if he got some new followers as well as a Deck, his marketing strategy paid off

Quoting: denyasisBTW, where did you find that? I was looking around the page in the link from the article, but I must have missed it.
In the contest rules linked at the bottom. Being privacy-conscious, I always read giveaway rules and often decide to pass, but this is the least invasive one I’ve seen in... possibly ever, if we’re talking about company-run contests only. So kudos to Valve in this one.

And not email. You have to send actual quill-to-parchment and french-kiss a postage stamp mail.

That seems kind of odd. Some sort of legal requirement?
The mail-in, no-purchase entry is a typical requirement here in Canada and I assume in the US as well. Their format specification is really odd indeed, though. Perhaps made specifically to discourage people from actually using that option :P

Quoting: denyasisCool, I'll be working then. I guess I could put it on in the background on my phone? As long as it doesn't require you to respond or anything if your name is called...
You’re good:

Steam Deck winners will also be notified by email to the email address associated with the winning Steam account; in that email, Valve may request shipping information for the sole purpose of delivering a Steam Deck prize to such winners.

You can also participate with a mail-in entry if you can’t watch the event live.

Seems like the kind of game I would enjoy, but I’ve generally given up on buying games from AAA studios. Between the launcher idiocy and required account creation, the user-disrespecting EULAs/privacy policies and the strong tendency to require a connection to their servers for anything to work even for offline play, which inevitably breaks at some point, the grief just doesn’t seem worth it.

Steam Next Fest - October 2022 Edition is live now

The downside of Proton, Wine and family becoming so good is that there are way too many demos I could try now

Quoting: PhiladelphusOoo, Potionomics* and The Eternal Cylinder** both have demos out before they release in the next few months!
The demo of Potionomics was disappointingly short. It doesn’t show you much more than you would see in a 2- or 3-minute gameplay preview video.

Probably a rare full-price "day-one" purchase for me, though I’ll wait for the native version’s release out of principle :)

Various BioShock games get a 2K Launcher calling it a 'Quality of Life Update'

Quoting: TheSHEEEP
Quoting: ElectricPrismYou got it all wrong, "Quality of Life" in this future context means to improve the life of 2K Games, and not you the product.
We might also be getting this all wrong.

"Quality of life" update doesn't mean that the QoL will be improved. It will just be updated.
Now there’s one to ponder for the "change is good" crowd
