GOG Summer Sale now live with new releases from SEGA

Although I like the DRM free games that the GOG is selling. I had issues with plenty of them and wasn't able to even make them running on Linux. So I decided to rather not buy anything on GOG anymore and instead support Valve with their love for Linux and their much more Linux friendly service.

With a 4GB file size limit and 2TB partition size limit?

Unfortunately, those limits could be a pain, but it's the file system format that works almost everywhere. Which isn't true for most of the others :-/

Why not use ntfs?

Not working everywhere, some devices can't read ntfs partitions.

QuoteThanks though to Proton
for killing native linux games development

For bringing the huge amount of existing games to Linux and it will probably help in the long term to native gaming as well. If the developers will see that the Linux gaming share is rising they will start doing the native ports instead of relying on Proton.

Proton Experimental fixes video playback in Ember Knights, Ghostwire: Tokyo and more

Strange, I played Warhammer: End Times - Vermintide in past with Proton and everything worked without issue, only thing that didn't worked was the launcher. So I'm surprised that it's marked as newly playable, when it was playable in past.

Overgrowth from Wolfire Games goes open source

It's always nice to see a game being open sourced, even if it doesn't include any assets. It will keep the game alive even if the developer is not around anymore to take care of it.

This made my day :-)

How it is difficult to install Luxtorpeda on Steam Deck and keep it up to date?

EDIT: Noticed that you have link to https://www.gamingonlinux.com/2022/03/steam-deck-using-luxtorpeda-for-morrowind-warzone-2100-and-x-com/ in the Article. Do you still need to update it manually in Desktop mode with ProtonUp-Qt?

Steam Deck Developer Mode does not turn off the read-only filesystem

Quoting: ExpandingManI guess I haven't been paying attention. The filesystem on SteamOS is read only by default? Why in the world would anyone do that? It seems so insane to me I'm not sure I'm reading it right.

I'm using Fedora Silverblue and Fedora Kinoite on my machines, both are based on the ostree technology and thus have most of the filesystem read-only. It's sometimes annoying, but the pros outweighs the cons, at least for me. You have system, that is hard to break, it's easy to return to previous working state, if anything stops working for you. You can even hop between various major versions of the OS without fear of breaking anything. And most of the other work could be done in containers or VMs. I hope this will get more and more adopted especially by distributions that want to target general public and not tech savvy nerds.

P.S. If you want to fiddle with the filesystem you can still do it by layering packages or unlocking it completely.
