As far as I know the snap is only supported by Ubuntu, other distributions wants to use Flatpak. And the Flatpak package for Steam is already worked on GitHub
I wonder why Canonical always wants to have something special that is not used in nowhere else (See: Unity, Mir ...)

I supported this one, because I love the Cyanide and Happiness comics. I hope they will deliver all the promised features.

You are right, people just get used to this tactics. You don't even get the whole game on release. Because there is many missing things, that are added like DLC and the price is sometimes higher than the original game. The picture bellow is sadly accurate.

Quoting: razing32Quoting: BrisseSTOP PRE-ORDERING
There's absolutely no point in pre-ordering, especially when using digital distribution such as Steam. It doesn't benefit you as a consumer one bit and it's always risky.
Sadly too late for that now.
Pre-orders , season pass (basically DLC Pre-order) , microtransactions in full price games , loot crates etc.
These things are becoming more and more ubiquitous and people are getting used to them. If you call them out you look like the bad guy.
I'm resolute to be cynical and watch the world burn :P

But it at least helps to make some games come true. For a small team it is really a kickstart for they project.
But I know that some studios are using the kickstarter only as a statistic to see how much this particular game is wanted and if they should spend any time and resources to make it. Which is bad.

Quoting: mcphailQuoting: GuppyKickstarter is NOT a pre-order! it's crowd sourced investment/venture capital - and sometime your investment returns no yield. Basically do not spend money on a kickstarter unless you accept that they may be lost with no reward to you.
Erm, I hate to break it to you, but Kickstarter has nothing to do with investment. "Backers" do not get shares in the company or profits. It is only a preorder mechanism disguised as an investment to circumvent expectations of a guaranteed product at the end of the process. It is preordering made worse.

What about kickstarter?

Quoting: Alm888Steam and GOG are encouraging this type of behaviour. Even Valve itself did this with HTC Vive!
I've yet to see a single developer who got punished for release-day cancelling.
At this stage the "No Tux == No Bucks" and "Never Pre-Order" rules are obligatory.
What about kickstarter?

Most of the time, I'm not influenced by the review score. I have some games that I want to buy and others I find interesting or somebody from my friends recommended it to me.
I heard about this problem, but sometimes only thing you need is to look how many hours the person, who write the review, spent playing the game. For me it will be better to see the review from the person with most hours at the top.

Wine Staging 2.15 released with more Direct3D 11 improvements

I'm running a Windows VM at work and it's a painful experience every time I must work with it. It takes too many resources to just run, that running anything inside it is really annoying. But because most of the customers of our company are using software, that can't be run in the wine, the VM is a necessary evil.
At home I'm playing mostly native games and testing some games on wine to fill AppDB data for the once I maintain.

Yes, the 2.11 broke the steam client. But this is already fixed in 2.12.

Quoting: razing32Hmm , at one point a Wine update broke my steam client so could not play the original Company of Heroes. Curios how it behaves in this new update.

Quoting: michaBtw. for those with launcher problems (only on distributions we do not supported officially support to my knowledge). We now deploy the latest client without the launcher to this URL:
http://live.albiononline.com/clients/albion-online-fullgame-linux.zip
Of course that means you have to manually re-download it every time we deploy a new version/patch.
There is also flatpak package which could be installed using these commands:
flatpak --user remote-add --if-not-exists flathub https://flathub.org/repo/flathub.flatpakrepo
flatpak --user install flathub com.albiononline.AlbionOnline
