I'm playing almost entirely on Steam Deck, so I got used to Gamepad controls.

I noticed that this even influence how I'm choosing the games to play. If it's difficult to play it on Steam Deck controls, I just try it and go to another one. But I don't mind playing turn-based strategies on Steam Deck, the mouse emulation is usually enough to be able to play. :-)

I never heard about Steam doing exclusives, it's on developer/distributor to decide where they want to sell. In case of Epic they are forcing the developers/distributors to not sell anywhere else.

I'm now playing Warhammer 40k: Chaos Gate - Daemonhunters on Steam Deck, it is marked as unsupported (because of graphics settings), but with little tweaking it's completely playable.

I don't like Epic for how they view Linux and give no support (actually they do opposite). So I will not support them till they change this behavior (I already have plenty of games from GOG or Steam and not enough time to play them).

The exclusivity is also bad thing, but good move to give more to devs for some time. I wonder if the exclusivity is for 6 months or more.

I recommend switching to X.Org, the SteamVR didn't worked for me in Wayland at all. You can do this on login screen just before login in the system.
