A look at some top Linux games released in 2018
26 July 2018 at 9:52 pm UTC

Quoting: KabouikHelium Rain will most likely release in 1.0 this year, and it is already a real jewel in its current state, the gameplay is great and there is a lot of depth in the mechanics and the economy. It's not only a good game by Linux standards (a platform on which fewer games are available), but I believe it's also one of the best space games so far, including Windows-only games.
+1 to everything you wrote. Helium Rain also I believe has had over 10% of all sales be Linux. Sadly, I think it's gotten zero attention in the Windows gaming world, where Star Citizen and Elite are sucking all the oxygen from everyone else and plow over all space gaming news there.

+1 to Overload as well.

Also (remotely) possible for 2018 is X4 for Linux, which has a 2018 windows launch date.

NVIDIA pushed out two new Linux drivers recently with 396.45 and 390.77

Quoting: Avehicle7887Can anyone confirm if the 396.45 driver fixes UE4 engine games?
This driver fixes the UE4 white screen issues, I tested both Everspace and Ruiner and they're back to normal. Also DXVK 0.63 works with this version.

Any idea if it fixes the Unity bug (ex: Tannenberg)?

Quoting: PatolaX: Rebirth has a lot of haters just because it was different from X3. But it is an amazing game by itself... specially if you improve it with mods (e.g. to skip micromanagement, improve AI - usually not necessary anymore - or spice it up).

I own the game but haven't given it that much time. Any suggestion on mods to use?

Ballistic Overkill set to get an exciting sounding update with a new game mode

Quoting: Whitewolfe80i agree I do wish it was more popular when you consider it has cross platform mp between linux and windows the numbers are low and really there are not that many offerings.... We have a massive shortage of story driven fps as well Bioshock infinite/Metro/deux ex and maybe if feeling generous shadow warrior (though the story is pretty bare bones)Hell i am actually excited about fucking turok a 22 year old game coming out on linux to have something "new" to play.
I played BO tonight and for a while everyone on the server was mortal, with no super-players, and it was really fun, everyone had a shot, then 2-3 demi-gods arrived and are killing you within seconds of spawning, and then it wasn't so fun. This game is also terrible at distributing players between teams by skill in the last match, and will frequently stack a team with the best players and it's a slaughter. I wished the BO people cared more...

As for story based offerings, I'm really enjoying Aragami right now. It's a stealth FPS/ninja game rather than competitive, but it's a lot of fun so far.

Quoting: WJMazepasI liked this game, but is not dead by now?

no not at all its still active however there are normally only like four servers with population with decent ping for me

It's also reaching that stage of game too where a few superb players are just owning each round. Of the, say, 12 people on a server in a round, 3 have 25-30+ kills, about 5 have 5-10 kills, and 4 have 0-5 kills.

Quoting: sbolokanovAhh Ninja are easy to take out once you know what to look for also and you may not like doing it you have to role a shotgun its the quickest way to gun them down before they reach you.

Actually, ninjas are the one thing keeping me from playing this more. I hate games where it just feels like I'm there as ninja fodder. I get your point about knowing "what to look for" but many of these players are so good that they just slice me up by the time I know they're there. I'll kill for "ninja free servers." Especially as someone who likes to play sniper in the game, we're sitting ducks for them.

Fast-paced free shooter 'Xonotic' is now available as a Snap

Quoting: mcphailAt the moment, for instance, the proprietary nvidia 396 drivers don't seem to work. Could that be affecting you? The issue is known and, I believe, is being worked on.

That's probably it. -- Sigh -- These 396 drivers are a plaque. I've had 3 games not load since those drivers dropped, and as far as I'm aware those driver specific bugs have been known for months now :(. I've had FPS drop on some titles too...

Is this actually working for anyone? It installs but won't run. That's three straight snap games that haven't worked for me...

As an aside, I'm pretty anti-snap (they're slow and don't theme match), but gaming is one area they make sense, and I look forward to our Snap future for Wine prefixes for titles...

Rocket League anniversary event starts on July 9th with a new type of arena
5 July 2018 at 10:32 pm UTC

QuoteThe highly addictive Rocket League is almost three years old!

I have a feeling this one will be played in 10, 15, or maybe even 20 years. It's a pretty near perfect game as far as I'm concerned...
