VRChat adds Easy Anti-Cheat, community not happy but Linux and Steam Deck work fine

Quoting: TheRiddickWhats a bad mod? well you can make mods that crash peoples computers! lmao

This is apparently a misconception. Game crashes are caused by uploading and using corrupt avatars. EAC doesn't prevent users from doing this because it's not a client mod. There were anti crashing mods that would detect and not load corrupt avis that are no longer usable

Quoting: natis1The real problem here is you can't host your own servers with EAC off. Official ones can and should use some kinda protection ideally serverside but killing off a massive active modding community is just shitty. Imagine if Minecraft in response to some people using cheat clients like baritone decided to add forced AC that broke every mod.

this will not work it may work for the new versions of the game before a modder made a mod to bypass the EAC or players will stick to a version of the game that does not have EAC

players that like to play with mods play Minecraft java edition

Yes your right. It's more like if Minecraft was an always online game and they could force you to use a version that didn't support mods. Which is even worse.

The article's image is from "Lucah: Born of a Dream" - I cannot speak for any of the other games in the bundle but this one is ABSOLUTELY worth picking up and playing. I cannot recommend it enough.

Twitter agrees to Elon Musk buyout, a reminder we're on Mastodon

Twitter is one of the worst platforms on the internet. Its algorithms and formatting are intentionally designed to destroy any nuance and promote the most disagreed with positions at the top of every reply. Yet ironically it's still an echo chamber because of the lack of dislikes and the moderation tools each user has for replies. It's basically Reddit if Reddit only sorted by controversial. Plus it runs absolutely terribly on mobile unless you use their app.

While it's not impossible, I find it hard to imagine Elon making it any worse of a platform.

Steam Deck Verified and Playable hit a thousand games

Quoting: SolitaryThere is quite a lot of games that seemingly work, but are labeled as Unsupported. Supraland for example, even though the standalone DLC Six Inches Under is Verified.

Speaking for this game specifically I asked the developers two years ago why they dropped and deleted the Linux native version and they said:

"we support proton. the native solution was bad and is dropped
low fps for reasons we cannot change"

I asked them last week "Wait what happened to the proton version?" And they said:

"i don't understand what's going on. we offer no proton version. but steamdeck seems to try to run everything using proton
valve says it has hitches"

They also clarified that siu is using a newer engine version and dx12 instead of dx11.

Play some socially-distanced tabletop games with a new FoundryVTT release

Love it. Use it to play Lancer and aside from the clients getting low fps on integrated graphics (fixed by v9 maybeee?) and some small module bugs it runs great. Love I can self host it with very low system requirements on the server and that it automates a lot of the game's rolls. I can't compare it to other paid vtt solutions but compared to r20 it's worth it in my opinion just for the automatic rolls.

ΔV: Rings of Saturn's demo appears to help sales, now lets you save your game

In my opinion demos used to hurt game sales. Back when the only games media was positive if you were undecided on playing a game a demo would only help you make a more informed purchase decision and avoid playing it if it was bad.

These days the situation is completely the opposite. Those undecided on a game have tons of resources ie internet videos and reviews which tend to be more negative than one's experience playing the game. Additionally there's lots of competition so anything to get your game talked about or played is good.

SteamNextFest sales data shows these days demos work.

Quoting: ShabbyXI'm glad they realized they lost this war, and now the poor people that trust microsoft have a working browser. If only they'd realize the same with NT and switch windows's kernel to Linux
They didn't make edge chromium based because they thought chromium was better. They were "forced" to because google was changing how youtube displays videos, which broke hardware decoding.

I can't find anything on this specifically but I'm guessing you are talking about the youtube switch to vp9 from avc. If so I will say, a website using free codecs that are part of the w3c standard instead of patented ones that aren't is a good thing always.

Star Labs introduce the small and mighty StarLite Mk IV

I guess I might be an enigma then because I have been a big netbook/chromebook fan since 2012 and for my usecase which is being able to do as much as I can on my desktop on the go without wasting money I've always brought my own keyboard. I can see this being good in the education sector or for light to medium work and I guess judging by the comments that market is where most stuff at this price point goes. Good luck to them.
