Dark Turn-based RPG 'Deep Sky Derelicts' releasing September 26th, Linux version will be available then

This game looks appealing to me too. Sci-fi setting with similarities to Slay The Spire, Darkest Dungeon, and other turn-based titles. I'll be watching out for the imminent release.

What are you clicking on this weekend and what do you think about it?

Having considered getting it for a while, I finally decided to pick up NEO Scavenger which is currently at 75% discount on Humble and includes the Steam key and DRM-Free Download.

I'm quite used to playing games with a survival-based theme. This one is tough, but also rewarding. You really have to consider your actions carefully. Also, every play-through you're able to learn from your mistakes in your previous game, and try to not make them again. There's a lot of common-sense and realism built in.

In my last game, I'd managed to find a sleeping bag, through scavenging. Crafted a sharpened spear to fight off opponents. Built a small campfire, and upgraded it to a bigger one. Made myself a sack for carrying more items during foraging missions. Killed animals, and roasted the meat. Poisoned myself by eating the wrong plants. Tried to recover with a lot of rest and warmth. The campfire attracted feral dogs, and after fighting for a while, my increasing wounds and illness brought me down. I feel I did pretty well, considering how unforgiving the game is, and the fact that I had found very few genuinely useful items during my foraging - RNG rogue-like play.

Three more Windows games I played - or rather tried - with Steam/Proton/WINE:

Fallout 3 GOTY - I tried this, but it failed for me - I'm aware that there are tweaking steps involving xlive.dll and using "/tmp/proton_run msiexec /i /path/to/xliveredist.msi" but I don't have and couldn't find "proton_run" (The command "find / -name proton_run" does not find it on my PC. Could not find it to download.) Running Debian Buster and trying latest Proton beta (after the more stable one didn't fix the problem.)

SCUM - Just a little bit more testing. Yes, it works. Mostly not bothering too much with it, because preferring better performance and game improvements before I get stuck in.

Skyrim Special Edition - A little more testing. It works, but not the NPC audio (which is quite important to enjoy the game).

Anyone know if I should delete the Proton directory if I upgrade from 3.7-3 to 3.7-6 ? (Obviously, I've restarted Steam.)

There's a big Artifex Mundi bundle for sale here right now. Not for this specific title though.

For a second there, I thought it was the norm to be at equal position to Windows release - Nah, just kidding. Hey, it's okay by me if they delay it a bit. They want to do support on one platform at a time, and quash the bugs on platform number 1 before stretching to platform number 2.

Saying that, there are Developers who *can* manage simultaneous release. (It is pretty rare though.)

SCUM, a very exciting sounding open-world survival game should come to Linux
3 September 2018 at 12:44 pm UTC

Quoting: KuJoScum has gone ...

After the last patch with which Easy Anti Cheat was implemented, surprise, the game with Steam Play/Proton is no longer playable. In multiplayer you are always kicked by the server. But I think singleplayer is still possible.

Yes, I've tested it for myself, and if you play SCUM with Steam/Proton on Linux, then Multi-player servers immediately kick you off. But also noting, it is Early Access, and the Devs are intending to bring it to Linux, and then the Anti-Cheat problem is resolved. I've been happy to buy it early, and willing to give the Single-Player a good try. But, I'm not expecting it to be worth picking up for most Linux gamers until it is out on Linux natively.

My game usage will be visible as a Linux player to the developers. Plenty to do in Single-Player. The performance (smoothness, frames per second) and game play (e.g. boxing zombies) are not that great for now, but it *IS* Early Access, and Steam/Proton tech is also going through improvements too. Hoping I'll be playing the native Linux version in 6 months time.

What are you playing this weekend?

Quoting: Patola
Quoting: g000hAlso as someone mentioned on the SCUM release thread, due to the recently added EAC anti-cheating tech update, SCUM isn't allowing my Linux/Proton system to game on Multi-Player servers :/ Instant kick.

That game, too? And you paid for it? (I got kicked on Darwin Project due to that) These EAC guys are really skrewing us over. A more coordinate approach against their prejudiced exclusion attitudes should be taken.

This is likely to be the case with any Anti-Cheat technology implemented in Windows Multi-Player titles. RUST has Anti-Cheat too, but because I'm playing it natively under Linux, I'm accepted as a regular non-cheating player. Noting that SCUM is Early Access, and the Devs have said they're going to bring it to Linux. I've got plenty to do in Single-Player anyhow. Maybe Steam/Proton will do something about Anti-Cheat tech for us in future. I'm not expecting to play SCUM properly until it is ON Linux, which is probably 6+ months away. Native play and ongoing improvements will likely make a big difference to the mediocre performance too.

N.B. My Steam/Proton play counts as Linux, so it encourages the Devs to support our platform.
