Here are some of my thoughts, and I've watched/listened to the video. It is quite long though, and I'm keen to get information quickly without having to sit through 30+ minutes of video.

I like what they're saying about openness. The various streaming clients is definitely nice to have. I like that they're keen on Linux tech. At approx 25 minutes, they mention having 100s of retro titles (I think from day one, i.e. coming free with the hardware). Unlike the current Linux emulation of retro titles, where the copying and using of arcade ROMs is on dodgy ground legally, I'm assuming that all the titles on here will be legit.

I suspect from the size of the box, that it is unlikely to cope with high-end gaming. Those games need top end processors with big cooling fans, and even bigger graphics cards with bigger cooling fans. Saying that, a medium spec system would still manage to play games like The Witcher 3 or Skyrim or DOOM (at no more than 1080P).

Which leads me on to something positive. If the Nintendo Switch is "big enough" to get DOOM and Skyrim ported to it. Then if a popular name like Atari manages to pull this off as a big hit - Then Skyrim, DOOM could be ported to Atari Box... and who knows, maybe regular Linux will eventually get titles like that.

Generally this will be good news for Linux I feel. Games publishers would release to Atari Box, which is based on Linux, and this is going to encourage them to release their game to native Linux as well. Might as well... It's Linux too... we've already done all the hard work.

One thing that I'm not clear on yet - Is this Atari Box going to run regular Linux Steam client (at all)? I'm assuming it likely will do, but if it ends up that it doesn't then this box isn't going to be anywhere near as appealing as it could be (to the typical Windows gamer).

Also noting that the Nintendo Switch came out at a similar price value, and that hasn't really deterred sales of that console. Atari does have a good chance, and thumbs up that this'll be good news for Linux gaming generally.

Seriously I don't get it. Seriously...

First of all, an opinion is an opinion. Some people will only buy DRM free, some people will do this, some people will do that.

For your benefit, I shall detail some of my reasoning for the comment:

1. I'm already in the middle of playing a selection of games. I don't especially want to drop what I'm doing in order to try a full demo of a game during a specific limited start and stop time frame. And then have that game taken away from me, at the end of the time frame, unless I pay. "It's a trap!" - Admiral Ackbar.

2. Sales people do these types of 'tricks' to push for more sales (compelling you to try something, now, else the free period expires and you have missed the opportunity of the freebie). Basically, this trick is hooking you into a game, and encouraging you to part with money, when there might be a better discount on another occasion or *when* you are ready to get into it.

3. There is the "Steam Refund" for when you buy a game (to your own time scale) and give it a try out before losing the money for it. Okay, it's not a long time to try out the game and then claim your refund, but it'd serve the purpose to me.

4. I watch game-play videos and have a very good idea what I'm getting into, before I buy a game. I don't need to be thrust into the start-stop sales trick situation to get a feel for the game.

I'm happier with the "try the game demo for 1 week, starting when you want to start" Steam Passes, that some publishers hand out (and then you can gift to Steam friends).

There is one BIG problem with this though. Not all Linux gamers are going to want to set their Account Preferences to only show Linux/SteamOS games in Search Results. I like to see all the games on Steam, and not just the Linux ones - even though I might favour the purchase of Linux games 99% of the time, there will be a tiny bit of interest in games available on other platforms.

So, the whole point of "this will show how keen Linux gamers are on our game" is completely lost. It only shows the really hardcore Linux players, who have deliberately made this setting active.

Personally I hope the developers realise how flawed this statistic actually is!!!

Looks to me like a mix of Painkiller and Ziggurat. Certainly interested in this game. I'm a big fan of all the 'twitch' FPS games like DOOM, Quake, Serious Sam, Xonotic, Painkiller, Ziggurat, Unreal Tournament.
