Planescape: Torment: Enhanced Edition officially announced with Linux support
29 March 2017 at 1:18 pm UTC

It's not the greatest of deals to owners of the original. Currently if you pre-order it on GOG (and already own the original) then you get 30% off. £14.99 down to £10.49 with the 30% off. The 30% discount option runs out BEFORE the enhanced game is released, so if it is full of bugs or somewhat rewritten, you won't know about it from reviews, if you take advantage of the pre-order discount.

Also, if you don't buy the original NOW, you lose the opportunity to buy the original in the future:

A quote:
"Note: Planescape: Torment Enhanced Edition will feature the unaltered original version and the Enhanced Edition in one definitive collection exclusively on GOG.com. The original game will no longer be available for purchase on its own, after the Enhanced Edition is released. Owners of the classic Planescape: Torment will not be affected by upcoming changes to the product."

This is very similar treatment of Duke3D game with the expensive 20th Anniversary Tour "enhanced" (not so enhanced, ahem) version that came out recently, and Duke Nukem 3D Megaton Edition immediately removed from Steam.

When Baldur's Gate I and II Enhanced Editions were released in 2016, Beamdog were offering them at a much more reasonable 85% discount to existing owners. That's the sort of price-point I'm happy to support.

Hope that the Stasis Linux beta will also come to GOG - because I own it on GOG and not Steam. And obviously, I'm a Linux gamer.

Fingers crossed!

Wine Staging 2.4 released

Quoting: tuubiGuys? This is a wine topic. I know this is a volatile subject around here and I appreciate the joke but isn't the spoiler thing just a bit unnecessary?

Actually, I think they're just doing it for the LOLs. But yes, considering the topic it is a bit silly.

RPG Maker MV now has a Linux version and a Linux game export option

Just gone through the first 15 pages of games, and there are a number in my existing Steam games collection. I guess that it will be up to the developers whether they bother to release their titles to Linux or not.

Here's a few that I've got already (but not necessarily on Linux yet):

Memories of a Vagabond
Heroes of Legionwood
DarkEnd
The Dark Stone from Mebara
Between Me and the Night

Also, here's the link you'd use to check the list of Steam games:

On the Steam list, I already spot a few games "on Linux"

Serious Sam Fusion 2017 (beta) for The First Encounter is now available, with Linux support
20 March 2017 at 8:24 pm UTC

Whoop! First time I've played Serious Sam HD on my Linux machine (and that includes WINE). Running nice and smooth at 4K resolution. There seems to be a little save game glitch, but even so it has worked okay for me so far. I'm going to enjoy playing this. Big big fan of Serious Sam 3 BFE, which I've completed including the DLC. Looking forward to trying SS3 with Vulkan.

I guess that this is the first Vulkan title I've played under Linux as well. (Played DOOM on Vulkan under Windows - hissss!)

Serious Sam Fusion 2017 update for The First Encounter due soon as 'the build is ready'

Actually, I think it is a really cool idea for games companies to remaster titles in their back catalogue to use the new Vulkan engine, and in doing so make it easy to port to Linux.

1) There's a lot of interest in Vulkan at the moment, so any progress is going to be watched with interest by the gaming community.

2) Interest in the new Vulkan technology is going to provide news and viral marketing for the gaming company, attracting people to their game products.

3) The developers in the gaming company are training themselves up on the new Vulkan coding libraries. Rather than create a brand-new game directly onto Vulkan - take an old familiar game and shoe-horn Vulkan onto it. They'll be Vulkan experts when they do use Vulkan for developing future games.

4) The impact of Vulkan will be very interesting for all - Developers, Marketing, Gamers, Gaming News Bloggers. Looking at frame-rate, benchmarks, visual effects - between older tech (DX9, OpenGL, etc) and Vulkan-based. We'll be able to directly compare Serious Sam 3 BFE 'regular' (OpenGL, I think) and 'Vulkan'.

AMD have announced Ryzen 5 will launch in April

Quoting: PublicNuisance
Quoting: g000hFor me, the unpleasant thing about upgrading to Ryzen is this:

Need to buy new motherboard (not checked prices, but likely to be £100)
Need to buy new RAM probably 2x 8GB DDR4 (not checked prices, but likely to be £140)
Need to buy new CPU (and Ryzen 7 is more than £300, ouch)
Possibly buy new CPU Fan (£25 maybe)

Likely to be £400 - £700 upgrade cost. Ick :(

That's the usual procedure on the Intel side as well so it's kind of a moot point.

Yes, but I'm already on the AMD side. ( AMD FX 8350 8-core 4GHz base clock )

Having to upgrade practically the entire innards of my system makes this almost equivalent to an entire PC purchase. What I'm saying is that it is a shame that this isn't a plug-in replacement to current FX series CPU, possibly costing closer to £200 and no need to buy "a whole PC" to get it.

It is annoying me that I feel that I have to upgrade to keep a smooth performance in AAA gaming. Fingers crossed that Vulkan games will work better, and there will be plenty of them in the future.
