Sudden Strike 4 looks like an amazing RTS that will have Linux support

Quoting: GuestNot sure if he's trolling or if the SteamOS bit just wooshed right past him. I'll be honest, for a split second when I was at their site I did the same thing. "No linux? Oh.. steamOS, duh"

Well, if it is a trolling on my part, it is not a trolling per se. The core idea is: the game is not planned for Linux. It is planned for Valve's "SteamOS".

Quoting: slaapliedjeI was thinking the same thing; "Bro, like SteamOS... it IS Linux.."

SteamOS /= Linux

SteamOS just happens to be a small subset of Linux-based distributions. For now. And at the same time while the Linux kernel and most distributions are GPL-ed, SteamOS with its "Steam Big Picture" (or something like that) is Valve's proprietary product. What will happen when Valve replaces Linux kernel with BSD and close their product?

Don't you see the writing on the wall?
1) Valve intentionally removed Linux logo replacing it with Steam logo;
2) Steam controller is unusable without Steam;
3) Linux -> SteamOS+Linux (note the order) -> SteamOS. Silent replacement of the brand.

Gabe Newell was a Microsoft employee! I mean, that, 1992, Bill's Microsoft, not the current one. Embrace, Extend, Extinguish tactics is in his blood, I'm sure.

Guys, why do you think it will come to Linux? There are no mentions of Linux on their site.

Only Windows PC, PlayStation 4, Mac and SteamOS. No mention of Linux.

Maybe someday in the future if they port the game and if the port is good and if there will be a huge discount on the old (by then) title and if I actually like the game, then maybe I will buy it.

;-D

Quoting: cRaZy-bisCuiTHow should that happen?

The was an idea on the thread (not mine, but I share the mindset) that Linux gamers (not just users, but gamers) are underrepresented on Steam compared to DRM-free sources (of which were indications on Humble Bundle statistics).

While we can not do a thing about "Steam Hardware Survey", we at least can count ourselves and get thew numbers as of how much developers lose by not releasing outside of Steam.

Empty words presented as an axiom. Let's speak hard numbers without implied knowledge.

It would be nice to have "Do you use Steam?" question in the statistics. This should shed some light on the 1% Linux users on Steam issue.

Linux market-share on Steam dropped 0.08% in December 2016

Quoting: Purple Library GuyAnd Steam has definitely remained the natural place to go for Linux gamers.

Objection! I did not ditch Windows in favor of Linux to sell myself right to the "Microsoft #2" AKA "Valve". Will not touch anything DRM-related ever.

Quoting: liamdaweLinux dropped by 0.08% according to the figures.

It is a really interesting question... We are always talking about how popular is Linux between Steam users. Maybe it is a good idea to scoop how popular is Steam between Linux users?

Quoting: liamdaweI'm afraid such users really will be in the minority.

A question about this in the local survey should be interesting. Let's find it out!

How To: An update on fixing screen-tearing on Linux with an NVIDIA GPU

Quoting: TwombyWasn't able to upgrade to latest version.

Maybe you should try official drivers from www.nvidia.com.

I know, this method has some drawbacks (like the need to manually reinstall the drivers from the console after every kernel update) but using this method you will get the top-quality latest drivers directly from the manufacturer (and thus will blip on their radar as a Linux user), not some potentially buggy distro-packaged drivers. I know, Fedora, for example, has outrageously bad nvidia drivers (partially that's because they support only "nouveau" and the quality of "rpmfusion" third-party repository is not that good).

Editorial: The Nintendo Switch will use Vulkan, why that doesn't suddenly mean more Linux ports

Quoting: ShmerlSince they are weak copyleft, I doubt any of that helps them much.

I believe that's entire reason big buck$ companies love BSD. It is alvays neat when you can grab others' work without giving anything in return. :-(

That's why BSD is what it is now: a faint shadow of Linux serving only as a donor to other proprietary products.

Did it help FreeBSD in a slightest? I also heard MacOS X has BSD underneath...

Do you want a joke?

When games are ported from "Switch" they first will be brought to Windows and thus will be rewritten to Direct3D 12. And from that point onward it would be too late in their life cycle to spend extra money on other platforms (as Nintendo Vulkan will differ from Windows Vulkan). ^‿^

Insanity? Definitely! But we shall see...
