Playing Quake 4 on Linux in 2018

Quoting: rea987No, it does. Launch the Steam version via WINE once to generate the CD key, then move the CD key into Linux version's config directory.
I tried this, and it didn't work for me. I had to contact the Steam support, and they gave me a key.

> Please note that the GOG.com release of Quake 4 is unique in not supplying a valid CD key, something which is still required for the Linux port to launch.

The Steam version won't give you a key too.

I heard Microsoft forces developers to use mandatory DX12 for XOne.

Quoting: theRealPadsterI can't even play Serious Sam Fusion. Had problems with it freezing up my whole computer, and now I tried it again and it froze up for a bit but then I could alt+tab out and it was just a black screen.
Try to disable Steam overlay.

I have, long time ago, but they haven't replied.

I have some problems with Vulkan in Fusion, so I switched to OpenGL.
1. Everything crashes unless I launch the game with Steam overlay disabled.
2. After about 30 minutes of playing, the game starts to stutter, and I have to switch its graphic rendeder from Vulkan to OpenGL and back to Vulkan again.

I hope Croteam will fix Vulkan first before dropping OpenGL.

GZDoom 3.2.3 released with improved Mesa driver support and more

Quoting: abelthorneUnfortunately, the launcher (to select a WAD to run) is still broken on Ubuntu.
Is it? Works fine for me.

Has anyone played Juvenile Power Fantasy mod? It always crashes at the end of every level when I press the exit button. I hoped the updated version of GZDoom would not crash, but it still does. I get this error:
gzdoom-g3.2.3/src/s_sound.cpp:2684: int AF_DObject_S_ChangeMusic(VMValue*, TArray<VMValue>&, int, VMReturn*, int): Assertion `(paramnum) < numparam' failed.

Here's another way to look at the Linux market share on Steam

Quoting: KetilThe money from selling under cost has to come from somewhere. For consoles it comes from the pricier games. If valve did the same with steam machines, then I am afraid the price of all steam games would increase, which would be bad for everyone except Valve.
From expanding the user base. More Steam users get Steam machines ⇒ they buy games on Steam for PC instead of those filthy consoles ⇒ more money for Gabe. Also, more Steam machines ⇒ more interested in Linux ports game publishers ⇒ more games for us. Maybe if Steam machines were $300-$400, we would already have GTA V on Linux. I wish Valve gave another chance to Steam machines, released new cheap but powerful enough versions, and sponsored porting of some big titles.

Steamspy says there are 275 million active users on Steam. 0.27% is about 750 thousand. Maybe it's true that Linux users migrate to Windows? Before PUBG and China, there were 150m and 1% respectively, which gave us 1.5 million of Linux users.
