What have you been playing on Linux? Come and have a chat

Been playing a bunch of Space Engineers myself, it's worked quite fine on Proton with the GE builds and a single game tweak to switch to the .Net server GC - though the game makes me rather feel the fact that my computer's just a little bit under-powered. Still great fun though, even if I can only just about hit 60FPS without pulling simulation quality down.

I've also been enjoying quite a bit of Star Citizen, which has been working relatively flawlessly on Proton (Lutris, but using a Proton Wine-version) for me, the only issues I've had so far can all be found reported by Windows users as well.
Awaiting the arrival of a new H.O.T.A.S. though, which has been delayed quite a bit because of the current situation.

Linux Mint votes no on Snap packages, APT to block snapd installs

I applaud Mint's stance on that users should get what they expect. If I were to install an APT package, then I definitely wouldn't expect that to result in a Snap being installed.

In regards to Snaps as a packaging format though, I can't really say much about it from a user point of view.
The non-Ubuntu support is still flaky enough that I can't get an up to date version, and would also need to compile my own kernel as well just to be able to use the outdated version that's available.

I've been using Flatpak and AppImage instead though, both have been quite great from a user point of view. Though Flatpak applications have integrated much better with the system as a whole than the AppImages, so it gets a gold star in that regard.
Personally, I feel that Flatpak definitely wins the developer use-case though, writing flatpak-builder manifests has been a joy compared to most other packaging I've done.

Steam Achievement Manager 'SamRewritten' has a new release
26 May 2020 at 4:19 pm UTC

This is quite nice actually, maybe I'll actually finally fix the Portal 1 achievement that's been broken for me since release.

I've unlocked the achievement for beating all the advanced maps, also the one for beating four advanced maps, but not the one for two advanced maps.
And as I've already beaten them all I have no non-cheating way of getting the achievement, the game code doesn't actually allow it.

Steampunk first-person, base building survival game 'Volcanoids' gets co-op on May 20

Played through a few of their earlier releases, and the game is great fun - with a spot-on artstyle too. I can't imaging that adding co-op will be detrimental in any way.

Humble Store has a massive Spring Sale on with Ashes of the Singularity: Escalation FREE to claim

Ashes actually did run really well on Proton when I played it last year with a friend, tried out all of the co-op maps they had made.

The AI in the game can be really ruthless if you don't take it seriously.

Been playing through and finishing off Assassins Creed: Odyssey, runs great with Proton.
It's a beautiful game, and with the Steam Controller it's a joy to play too, it's just a bit sad that their UI messes up rather badly if you try to use a proper mouse config for aiming - so I'm making do with a mouse-like joystick.

FS2 Open for playing Freespace 2 on modern systems had a big update

Quoting: NeoTheFoxOh nice, I've been sitting on this game for a while now. It's one of the best games to play with a Joystick/HOTAS setup, to this day even. Guess that's my queue to finish it.

And I suggest having a playthrough of the Blue Planet campaign afterwards, definitely one of the best community campaigns you'll find, especially War in Heaven has some amazing missions and story. (Including missions where you get to fly capital ships)

2.5D multiplayer military shooter 'Soldat 2' announced - yes it's a proper sequel
5 February 2020 at 10:00 pm UTC

This brings back so many memories.

I really enjoyed the original Soldat, especially how the map editing had been designed in that game. Was a real pleasure drawing custom maps with the polygonal design tools.
Hopefully Soldat 2 will offer map creation capabilities too, even if I guess they'll have to be a bit more intricate.

Logitech Steering Wheel manager pyLinuxWheel has a big new release out

Nice, hopefully it'll work better than Oversteer for me, that one just kept coming up with odd error messages at strange moments for me.

Atari VCS going through 'Engineering Validation Testing' on the road to release

I'm really happy about the sight of an empty full-sized M2 slot there on the board, as well as upgradable RAM, bodes well for the use of the VCS as an HTPC as well.
