Heroes of Might and Magic II recreation fheroes2 adds widescreen support

I don't think we can call it pixel art, strictly, for Heroes II, it's just older than Heroes III but the reason is not the style itself. I think Heroes III ages much better, I think mainly because of colors choices.
But just to not be misunderstood, I like the graphics of Heroes II too, it's just different, we can like both.
Anyway thanks again for this great project!

Quoting: freeheroes2Heroes 2 has a gorgeous pixel art made by professional artists for NWC. Pixel art ages not so noticeably, comparing to 3d pre-rendered art of Heroes 3. It has its charm and animations are detailed and nice. Anyway, all Heroes 1-5 games look awesome.
Speaking of gameplay, Heroes 2 is not really different from later series. It has a few less skills, factions, artifacts but even experienced players of later series are enjoying HoMM2. The lack of content is going to be fixed in the upcoming fheroes2 expansion, which is planned to bring a bunch of new objects, creatures and game mechanics.

I played 3, 4 and 5, a lot, but at different times. I played only a little bit of the 2. I tried a bit the 6th, it was pretty bad though, but maybe I will give it another chance in the future. The 3 is still my favorite by far.
The 5 is pretty like the 3 but with "3D" graphics for me, so at the time I discovered it I though it was the perfect game for a time, but you know what it's like to try something new...
As for the 4... be prepared, as the gameplay have tons of changes compared to the 3... some hate it, some love it.
But I disagree on "It looks better", the 3 looks gorgeous to me. ^^ For me the 2 has nice graphics but it tell its age.

Quoting: JahimselfQuoting: pbQuoting: hardpenguinHeck yes. Probably my favorite HoMM game.
Is it better than HoMM3? It looks better, but what about gameplay?
It's very similar, except units and factions are a bit different. Not as deep, no as balanced, but it has very good soundtrack and it's own rythm and design. Story is deliberatly cliché in a good way (voice acting pretty good in my language: french) I quite like it. I'm doing the backward way. Went from 3 to 2, and next I'm gonna purchase the first episode, and maybe 4 & 5 after :)

Grim Dawn is clearly one of my favorites (if only, it had a native Linux version uh)!
DevilutionX is a gem, I keep hope for something similar for Diablo II, that would be huge!

I think Monkey Island did that.
Monkey Island 1 and 2 had fancy cardboard dials or wheels. Or at least the Amiga versions did. A bunch of early Sierra adventures had stuff you needed to find in the manual. And of course plenty of C64 games had something like a colour code grid on the cassette inlay card. Things like these were pretty common throughout the eighties and early nineties.

Quoting: AllocWish they also added a similar rule to images showing actual gameplay vs renders. Can't remember what it was last time but I just had that case a few days ago where there was like a dozen or so images first after the numerous trailers that did not show *actual gameplay* either.I don't use Steam, but I browse some games on it sometimes, and I can confirm it's boring yeah...

Sorry but you don't understand, the point isn't only a technical one.
You seem to find excuses where there are none...
When you promise a Linux version (or macOS), you do it from the start to avoid the maximum of issues, that was repeatedly said on this website from many people.
You don't start to "port" your game on Linux 1-2 months before the full release.
They never spoke about their difficulties about the Linux version, and yet they announce on the release day that there won't be Linux native, it's just dishonest.
They lied to us dude, it's simple.
Bonus (as I posted in the forum "Crowdfunding page suggestions"): https://www.youtube.com/live/CxYPVee36sY?feature=share&t=3250
Dare to tell me this guy is honest...
But yeah, this time I learned the lesson: never a trust a dev even if they released their previous game on Linux. I'm tired of it and, UE4 issues or not, I don't think I'm the only one.

Quoting: EagleDeltaI disagree. As I work in Software Development you have two competing problems as a company:
1. Make promises to get buy-in ahead of time or the project never gets off the ground.
2. You simply don't know what you don't know until you get to that point. The reality being that UE5 was not available when Everspace 2 started development and they were able to port Everspace 1 to Linux before. Imagine the surprise when you finally get to that work, only to find that the promise you had to make to get funding now no longer is viable from a technical standpoint without starting the entire project over on a new engine.... which is infeasible this late.
This issue doesn't happen as much in Tech due to the fear of customer churn on very expensive services. By comparison, once Game Devs (and Engine Devs) get their money, it's on to the next project since that up-front revenue does nothing but fade off over time. And, sadly, this part of the issue falls squarely on gamers' shoulders. As long as gamers continue to pay for things despite what GameDevs and Engine Devs do, there won't be any incentive to stop.
