Heroes of Hammerwatch released on Steam for Linux, no GOG release due to missing Galaxy

It appears that the Windows GOG version doesn't need to launch Galaxy to join/host a game. Anybody can confirm this ?

I saw this on the GOG forum : https://www.gog.com/forum/heroes_of_hammerwatch/multiplayer/post4

So if it's true, why the Linux version need Galaxy ?
It's confusing...

Quoting: Avehicle7887I don't buy from Steam not because of the client, but because the games need the client and there's quite a difference there. If for example Codemasters told me "Hey, you can play our games without Steam", I'd definitely buy them, same goes for all other Linux games.

There are plenty of games on Steam that you can play without the client:

I don't currently even have the steam client installed. I use SteamCMD (a terminal based steam downloader from Valve) to download the games, and then play.

So SteamCMD works great without the Steam client installed. Does it works like lgogdownloader ?
I didn't know this was an official tool by Valve, but it's a pity it seems not open-source.
But it's a good point which that exists, i think.

Quoting: KimyrielleIn that context I find it funny how so many people here continue to bash Steam for its "evil DRM" and hype GOG - when in truth we have to thank Steam for having decent gamings options on Linux these days, while GOG never gave a flying fish about us, and their own parent company is refusing to port its games to Linux.

Just saying.

I would say that Linux builds profits to Linux gamers and DRM-Free builds profits to everybody.
This is mainly why i choose GOG over Steam. I'm not a fanboy with GOG, i criticize some points if needed.

Quoting: elbuglionenever ever pre-order....

I don't remember myself to pre-order any game. But for me Kickstarter is not a pre-order thing.
On pre-order you can wait until the official release and you get the game. On Kickstarter if a campaign fails it's possible to not get the game at all...
But if it's going wrong for whatever reason, i ask for a refund, at least i would have tried.

I'm balanced between infinite sadness and infinite anger.
Not just because the Linux build is not on GOG but because the devs are telling us this at the last moment.
Not a single word about it until the official release... I mean they obviously knew it wouldn't come on GOG.
But yeah they're not the only ones...
Tell me if i'm wrong.
