Quoting: bekoHeh, this seems to have all the humour of Starship Troopers [but with capes] :D

How do you like this cup of LIBER-TEA!?

Yeah the humour is superb. The whole vibe is just spot-on.

I think I'm right in saying that since everything Steam installed for Proton/Wine goes into a pfx folder, and since Steam starts and stops the associated Proton/Wine processes as the game requires... then there's no way that these "kernel-level" rootkit-style always-on anti-cheat systems really expose you on Linux.

Like, on Windows, GameGuard would install at SYSTEM level and potentially just keep running. But on Linux, it's only running when Steam says it is.

If I'm right, then that's a huge win for gaming on Linux.

Quoting: The_Real_BittermanI have mixed feelings about this. Considering there are only two perceptions of Manjaro: Great as f*ck and Broken as f*ck it will be interesting to see how it will turn out.

I feel like this is Manjaro perfectly described. I've tried it twice and had terrible problems getting even basic things (like gamepads) to work, but meanwhile it's the fourth most popular distro on GOL's stats!

Quoting: Loftybut we have global FSR2.0 now, which works really well especially on a smaller screen with a higher resolution, where as FSR on an already low 800p screen (mixed with the usual terrible TAA implementation on many modern games used for anti-aliasing) doesn't look crisp at all.

Why would a smaller screen have worse FSR? Technically speaking, a smaller screen should make it harder to see the imperfections.

FSR takes the resolution you're playing at, then scales it down for calculations before showing you the results of that calculation at your original resolution. So the lower the initial resolution, the less impressive and fuzzier the results end up. FSR really only shines at 1080p and above. I use it on most 1440p games to keep the calculation around the 1080p mark and I honestly can't tell the difference in what's shown on the screen, but I do benefit directly either by having an extremely stable 120fps, or by not having my fans sound like an aircraft is taking off from under my desk!

Recover your lost memory in the demo for Veil of Shadows

Dunno what the story is with the crazy-shaky camera work in the trailer, but the game itself looks great! Getting big Mana Spark vibes, but with hints of Children of Morta and maybe even a little Death Must Die, albeit I don't think Veil of Shadows is meant to be a horde-survival. I love this style of game though. Definitely interested.

This looks superb. It's a got a Dead Cells had a baby with Children of Morta vibe. Maybe a touch of Ember Knights in there too. I'll wishlist this, but probably wait for EA to finalise before pulling the trigger. I don't want to burn out on it while content is still being added.

AYANEO NEXT LITE no longer ships with SteamOS-like HoloISO Linux - Windows 11 instead

What a cop out. This isn't about gamers. They either buckled to MS pressure, or loud-voiced social pressure.

I have no respect left in the tank for this outfit. Long live Stream Deck, basically.

OpenAI say it would be 'impossible' to train AI without pinching copyrighted works

Quoting: 14I think there is an argument that reading copyrighted material is same as a human doing so and then writing their own creative work

When people do this, they pay for the privilege, or access libraries and can only check out books and copyrighted materials for private use. OpenAI and others aren't doing that, they're just consuming all the content, even pirated material and context behind paywalls, on the internet, and using it to train their model.

Of course, proving that will be the court battle.

Hmmm . . . one of the markets Valve apparently isn't interested in has quite a bit of profit potential. Presumably this Ayaneo thing will sell in China. I mean, it's a Chinese company.
Obligatory comment about the Steam Deck not being sold in Australia/NZ. Though I'll be the first to admit we don't have as many people as China does.

(But they sell it in Canada!)

Haha - I just looked up the numbers! In terms of landmass, China is only slightly larger than Australia (around 20% bigger). But it has, wait for it, 46 TIMES as many people - 1.4 billion compared to Australia's 30 million! Yikes!! So I guess Ayaneo has a market at least!

But as for Valve, yeah, good point - Canada has around the same population as Australia, so it's clearly not the numbers driving this decision. It's either regulation, import/export laws, or supply chain. Or something else - global freight isn't my thing, so I'm guessing.
