Just spent a half-house on this. Really, really good. Not normally my cup of tea, so I doubt I'll chalk up too many hours, but definitely worth a look.
Linux Game Sales Statistics From Multiple Developers Part 2
12 February 2014 at 8:55 am UTC
I agree, but I don't see how losing nearly a quarter of your sales can be a viable proposition for anyone. If Harvest only sold 10 thousand units, that's £60k gross. So Mac/Linux account for £15k of gross sales. So I wonder what it "costs" to support multiple platforms. But £15k will buy a couple of decent Macs and PCs to run the O/S and have plenty spare for any required additional licenses for your game engine. But not enough to pay a wage to a dedicated support role for those platforms.
Perhaps they've been bitten by especially poor ports to Mac & Linux, which perhaps generated lots of support. I'd like to think that this is an unusual story.

Quoting: FutureSutureQuoting: philip550cI'm pretty sure they were implying they would be going Windows only.
Quoting: JasonThat's exactly what they're saying by not supporting 'multiple platforms'....That's worrisome considering what the other developers were saying, especially Chris Simpson from The Indie Stone.
Not singling out Linux there.

Steam's January 2014 Hardware Survey Has a Linux Drop

I doubt the sample size is big enough to draw conclusions about a 0.3 percentage point swing. However, if I were to jump to conclusions, I'd suggest that folk are getting weary waiting for CS:GO and Portal2 to come across. There's typically 100K players on CS:Go a day. That's 100K players who aren't interested in Linux. Only Dota2 is a bigger game for Steam users.
I know I'm weary. I'm dying to play Stanley Parable...

Just grabbed it! Couldn't care less about the reviews - I've been a Warhammer 40k fan for a while so I tend to bias these games upwards by quite a margin.
Best to use the Humble Store. At $30, it works out at £18.65, which is a pint of lager and a packet of crisps cheaper than buying it on Steam directly (£23). And of course, you still get a steam key with the Humble purchase.
I'll try it out at the weekend - won't get a chance before then.

Steam's Set Of January Greenlit Linux Titles

So... they're releasing on Linux because "CryEngine supports Linux"? Since when? I was sure that CryEngine support was why Star Citizen was cagey about Linux support.
Crytek only posted jobs about Linux in July last year. Surely they're just suddenly "supporting Linux" already??

Minecraft Gets Its First Development Snapshot In 2014

You hit the nail on the head with both monster types and exploration. It's been a while since I've felt like hitting up Minecraft knowing that the best you can hope to find in your survival maps is a temple. It just lacks adventure and surprise.
Still, I do keep a couple of servers still running for my kids to play about on and they love the creative modes, so Minecraft still has legs. A lot of legs.

Killing Floor 2 Leaked By Steam, Turns Out To Be A DLC UPDATED

Ah, gutted that it's just DLC. I've sunk over 200 hours into KF, easily the game I've played most, ever. I'd love to see a sequel, natively written for Linux from day one, instead of a bolted-on UE3 port with texture glitches like we have now.
Hopefully it's still in the works though.

First Generation Steam Machines Revealed

I'm gutted that there was no CS:GO or Portal 2 announcements. CES wouldn't have been the place to necessarily plug them directly, but I thought that a general "Steam Machine" announcement would have coincided with those titles at least.
Sad. And a wee bit worrying.
I'm just dying to play Stanley Parable.
